I'm looking at it as a Katrina situation and all those cars that ran out of fuel while evac from the city. In a long term SHTF...what ever car/truck/SUV/motorcycle/four wheeler/horse I can get my hands on...but good old hoofing it on foot at times will be the only option...so don't get attached to what your planning on driving now.

Of course I do, but it's classified and the dog ate it, and the CIA won't let me show it and I could show you but then I'd have to kill you, and er, um, all that other stuff that happened to my DD214 and all other records of my many awards for bravery.

I am using the same tires on my truck, however, I was curious about the run flat concept. The Goodyear's are good for tread protection, but not so much on the sidewall.

If in shtf was caused by nuclear attack but you were lucky to be clear of ground zero, the EMP blast would pretty much make every vehicle and other electronic dodad you got worthless.

I've heard cars that use generators instead of alternators would actually work, but that is probably internet fiction.

Gotta go with the deuce-n-a-half idea; cheap to acquire at government auctions or private sale; will run on just about anything, and parts are still readily available. The truck would do the heavy lifting and I'd couple it with a sandrail or baja bug to run scout.

I've taken factory Jeep Cherokees places much worse than just bugging out. Same for factory Suburbans. Even a Ford Escort of mine has went cross country on purpose to check on a crew.

I like to be comfortable. A Suburban diesel (if I can find it, 350 V8 if not) 4x4 with a roof rack would more than meet my needs. Could probably make out just fine with my C2500 extended cab long bed with a camper shell if it wasn't such a gas hog.
