Looking for advice on an Over-Under

My dad is looking to pick up an Over-Under for skeet and sporting clays. He's pretty set on an over-under because he is in sales and hopes to go shooting with clients so it is somewhat for image.
He's looking to spend under $1000 (hopefully more around $500), and doesn't mind if its used.
I'm hoping to find him one with interchangeable chokes so he has some control over the pattern. We are heading to Cabelas tomorrow to take a look at their used inventory, and look at new options as well.
Any advice on things to look at, or stay away from? I have a 12 guage pump, and we have both fired an over-under so we are familiar with them, we just don't own one.

Man--if you were in MN , there was a used Beretta White Wing for $800 on Armslist...

Unfortunately, Cabelas will likely be overpriced.

You may be able to find a used Browning Citori for under a grand.

O/U's aren't really my thing, but I do know several people who do like them...and under $500 is gonna be hit and miss, reliability and quality wise.

what are the Ruger Red Labels going for these days?

always seemed like very nice guns.

I know next to nothing on doubles though...except coachguns are a freakin' blast to shoot.

The most important thing about O/U shotguns is the way it fits you. Once you raise that gun to your cheekbone, it should show you a level top and clear front sight. Most decent manufacturers offer their stocks with an adjustable comb. You want to look for this feature. The proper distance from your nose to your firing hand should be considered. Try searching for shotgun fitting since this really is the MOST important thing to consider when choosing.

Browning and Beretta come to the top of my mind considering your price range. Search the Perazzi site to see the real world of O/U and you'll surely pick up a lot more info there.

We went out to Cabelas today, and he had this ^ in mind for trying out shotguns. I was standing next to him for about a half hour before I told the employee to grab a Mossberg 500 and let him try it. It felt better to him than any of the over-unders he was holding. The Mossberg 500 he held is identical to the one I have sitting in my safe, the same one he pretty much wrote off as useless.........(until today )
