That guy Dave, not the one in Delaware, had some very nice WWI and WWII era rifles, a Mosin M44 (with bayonet), Enfield .303, Springfield 1903, Springfield 1917, and an M1 Garand.

That's vf1000ride.

Thanks for the pics!

For those who don't know everyone, I'll point out the obvious first, this is Dave in Delaware:

This is Krackels:

This is me (wolfsburg_de) on the left and my friend Rich on the right (he's not cool enough to own an XD or to belong to this forum yet ):

Future Mrs. Dave in Delaware:

This is jtkratzer shooting one of the MANY pistols that the NJ NRA instructor brought. This particular Ruger Redhawk had an INSANELY heavy trigger pull, felt like 20 lb in single action mode.

That was probably one of the most fun times I have ever had at a shooting range. I'm sure I am forgetting some of them, but here are some of the guns I shot:

from the NJ NRA instructor:
.44 Mag Ruger Redhawk with the 20 lb trigger
9mm Makarov PA-63 (gotta look into getting one of those, $130 surplus)

from Marcus (very nice guy, met him that day):
CZ 75B (outstanding gun, smooth action, short but positive *CLICK* reset to the trigger

from jtkratzer:
XD 45 Compact (recoil not much harder than my 9mm but more of as push instead of a flip)

from Dave in Delaware:
XD9 SC (felt quite similar to shooting my 9mm Service)

from John A (one of the guys I brought to the event):
Browning Buckmark (tack driver)

from Rich (another one of the guys I brought to the event):
Scoped .44 Mag Desert Eagle (lotsa bark, little bite in terms of recoil)
10/22 with NV scope (even with a filter, tough to see reticles in daylight but nice shooter)
Remington 700 (WAY, WAY more accurate than I am)

I lent my XD-9 and P3AT to a bunch of people, either they enjoyed shooting them or were too polite to say that they didn't. Also, my Garand got a decent workout at the 100 yard range, shoulder is still a tad yellow (bruise disappearing).

That's one of the things I like most about these meets: everyone there is usually very open and willing to let you shoot their toy(s), and ask questions, and give you pointers, etc.... It's the perfect learning environment (friendly helpful people, relaxed atmosphere, safety-conscious).

Man, I have -got- to start doing sit-ups again ...
The lever-action carbine in that photo is a Marlin 1894 chambered in .44 Magnum - it gets fed whatever won't cycle the Desert Eagle, and it was the designated anti-coyote tool when I lived in rural northern Nevada. I like the idea of having a handgun and long gun with the same chambering - adds versatility. .44 is always available in bear country...

Was fun getting the Remington 700 VS/SF "Evil Sniper Rifle" sighted in for sea level - it last saw action at just shy of 6000'. Took 11 MOA to get it re-zeroed at 100 yds with 175gr BTHP. Felt pretty good seeing 1 MOA groups after a 4-year layoff.

Glad to have met all you guys, great day.

Dave, what XD guns did I shoot at the TRP shoot last year? I'm writing up something about all of the polymer guns I've shot, Glocks, XDs, M&P and posting it on TRP.

I've shot a bunch of XDs recently, but at the time I shot yours I didn't remember the names?

Jamie: I only have the XD's in the sub-compact (3" bbl) and the service (4" bbl) flavors, both 9mm ("XD-9"). I'm guessing you shot both of them as a comparison. Hope this helps. My memory isn't as good as it used to be - a year is a long time to remember....
