Bob,

Have you been to the class put on by Team One Network? I am trying to host an armorer's class early 2008 in the I.E. I sent the hosting packet in and am waiting to hear back from them.

I would be interested in attending yours.

Here is a description of the Team One class.

Springfield Armory Armorer
Springfield Armory Armorer courses are structured to provide each student with a practical understanding of the advanced features that make the Springfield Family of Firearms unique.
Students will gain hands-on experience with the XD Pistols, the safest polymer handgun available, bringing together a number of important safety innovations into one firearm.
Students will receive practical skills on the 1911-A1 pistols the "warhorse" of combat pistols and the M1A rifle which is based on the legendary M-14 renowned for its accuracy, reliability and durability.
Topics that will be covered are:

Nomenclature
Operator use
Cycle of functioning
Field & detail stripping
Care & cleaning
Troubleshooting
Preventive & corrective maintenance

Duration: 3 Days (Day One 1911, Day Two M1A, Day Three XD)
Tuition: $495.00
Equipment Required: Team One Network supplies tools and weapons

I haven't attended any of their classes so I can't offer you an opinion of the quality. You might try asking them for the contact information of some of their former students so you can get their input.

We do alot of classes, mostly centered around defensive or competition shooting. We have offered in the past combination classes which included both shooting and armorer subject material. When we do that we limit them to just one type of gun. That was what we are offering with the XD based class. It would be half a day of classroom work for the armorer side and half a day shooting on the range.

Will this class be instructed by a Springfield certified instructor? I'm interested. Several in my department carry and XD, and we don't have an armorer yet.

This class would be taught by me, and I am not a Springfield XD Certified Armorer. I do however have a fair amount of knowledge about the XD pistol series having worked on a couple of them and having had a small involvement in designing and manufacturing upgrades for them. I would be happy to discuss with you the possibility of either providing training for your in house armorer or providing armorer services for your department depending on a couple of things. And of course my offer to do a class at Prado still stands.
