It is on, for anyone interested, keep an eye on the SI website for schedule posting. It looks like it is going to be a great time to hone your shotgun, and handgun skills. Plenty of time to save up for this one. There will be a package deal for both classes. You can do one or both eitherway. Come and train with us.

SI in Panhandle/ Shotgun Class Report!!!
Friday was the shotgun class. It was an eyeopener for some. When you think about a SG for home defence buckshot may not be the best round to shoot. #4 will surprise you. We worked on moving around and transition from SG to handgun. If you do not have a sling on your SG, you might want to try one out sometime.
We patterned our loads, buckshot, slugs, and birdshot. From 7yards to 25 yards. With a tactical SG with an 18" bbl, the SG is a close quarters weapon, no exceptions. I am not going to get into the makes, there were all flavors involved, semi autos, and pumps. Buckshot at 20 to 25 yards is a long shot.( oo buck seemed to be the best round in a short bbl SG BTW). Wide patterns and if you get lucky, maybe a pellet or two might hit your adversary. Transition to slugs. Birdshot no better. These are tac SG's not hunting guns. I will not go blow by blow, but everyone should think of your surroundings when using a SG for home defence. We had one LEO there and they use slugs mainly on duty, and some buckshot. This was his first actual gun specific such as the SG training he has recvd. Or should I say his first SG class exclusively. He too was surprised as to what and at what distances a SG is uneffective. Whether you decide to attend a SG class, at least spend a little time and see what loads work best and know your limitations with a tac SG. Most cases in a home defence a #4 round is plenty. Slugs thru car doors, and buckshot thru walls. Moving around the house is a good idea with your SG. Work on transition to HG. That is where the sling is a great asset. The SG is a great defence weapon, but just like anything else it has its limitations. Know what your are and you will be fine. Don't take a SG to do a rifles job, so to speak. Work on going from birdshot to slugs. This is on the range of course. When faced with diffrent situations the ammo is specific to this task. No brainer there. This is just a short summary, but you can get alot out of a SG, just know how and what it will do before you grab it for self defence. Suarez is a great place to learn. Randy Harris was the instructor and is a very good guy. If you can't get to a SI class, check out the schedule, there maybe one close to you. I will post about the CRG (colose range gunfighting) on another thread. It was a three day training class, one for SG and 2 for CRG. Just a side note, if you want to train, and are a bit unsure, we had a lady of about 65 for all three days. People who attend are normal folks, not some bunch of yahoos with guns or drill seargents and a-- holes. Just regular guys and women who want to learn how to defend themselves. Yea there is always a know it all, but you will be surprised they actually learn something too. No one knows everything, or always the best way to do it. Come train with us, you will enjoy every minute.
