I would classify my "parking enforcement" as patriotic.... So does that count?

Disclaimer:...First off...I am NOT entering the contest, but I thought it might be fun entering a photo anyway.
The revolver is a Ruger .45 Blackhawk. The document behind it is my grandfather's (John H Harvey, First Sargent, Co. B) original discharge papers from the Civil War. Both he and his oldest son (John G Harvey, Co. G) served for 3 years with the 50th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The regiment has a colorful history, and marched with Sherman on Atlanta.

i think it's pretty incredible that you have that document and that it's in such good shape. i had relatives in the civil war that fought for the south but i've never seen anything from them and i don't know too much of their history... it unfortunately died away through the generations.

Thanks warrior. I was visiting my mom a few years ago, when she brought out the old family bible. She told me that she had something that I might be interested in. She opened the bible and neatly folded inside was this document. Needless to say, I was astounded. I've spent a lot of time researching my grandfather and his unit.
I plan to send it to a professional restoration specialist.

Frenchy, I think you should leave the document exactally like it is now without restoration. I think restoration will lessen it's authensitity and devalue the the document. If you want to restore anything, make a duplicate copy and have it toutched up by photoshop. Put that one on display and put this original in your safe deposit box or let your local museam (or a national one) put the original on display there.
