I went to the range, rented the XDM 3.8 45, put about 200 rounds and and began to have second thoughts. I'm no quitter though, so six more trips to the range, worked on relaxing the killer grip, getting used to the recoil and I'm back to saving up for the 45 compact. Since my plan is for that to be my EDC, I'm practicing my glutes off! That is one FINE piece of machinery! Thanks!

Your welcome. Good choice. Yea the 1911 and xdm.45-3.8 both fire the .45acp but they are way different pistols, the 1911 has longer barrel and more weight which usually makes it easier to shoot, but the xdm's are very accurate. All it takes is some practice and youll have a great edc pistol.

Ok, here's the thing, I've always been told to get a bone crushing, killer grip on a pistol, then let off and that is the "proper" grip. But My experiences with this 45 is that when I use this grip, one, my shots are within a 6" group, but they are consistantly about 4 inches low, then I have muscle fatigue beginning after about 50 rounds and get the shakes. Part of it I think is trying to compensate for the recoil, but if I relax the grip, I'm afraid to lose control of the weapon. The RangeMaster says thumbs downward, in the past, I've always done thumbs facing toward the target, what do you all think?

I have the .45 with the standard frame (4.5" barrel) and I love it. The recoil isn't bad at all and I can't imagine it's any worse with .7" less of barrel. The XD(m) is just a thing of beauty.

I mainly shoot 9mms and have only shot a few other 45s including a Smith and Wesson M&P and I instantly fell in love with my xdm 45 compact. I love my 9mm M&P, but couldn't shoot the 45 compact if my life depended on it. Their is hardly any muzzle rise and the recoil is just a nice push back. This is an easy gun to shoot and so far has functioned flawlessly eating up any ammo I run through it. I also like the trigger, slide serrations, grip and it's nice that you get a lot of things in the kit with this gun.
