Out at the range today.

Went to the range today moved from about 10 yards to 25. I wasn't doing too well would get about 5 right on then the groups would suck. It wasn't until I gripped to the poing of shaking that I started hitting really dead on. If I relaxed my grip the grouping suffered. Shoud my grip be this tight? I mean if it keeps me on target I guess it's better than not being on right. Last mag of 15 with my 9 had 3 low 4 high and right the I said srew it and choked the crud out of it got 2 just a hair off to the top and 6 that punched out the center. That was with my 9mm.

With the .40 maybe because I know it's got a bigger kick I instinctively grip it harder I did much better no strays and a 4 inch group not great but nothing all over the place either.

You will find different ways to grip your weapon. Sometimes what works for some, not other. However, I found that if I grip "hard", my groupings are much better.. keep practicing...

A very firm/crushing grip is necessary, especially on those long shots.

I would bet in a self-defense situation you'd have a (pardon the expression) death grip on your gun as part of the stress reaction, so maybe it's best to practice with your grip that firm all the time.

I've been hitting a hair left on many shots with my XDs. I believe part of it is the gun just naturally recoils in that direction, but most of it is me. I've had to adjust my grip a bit from the Sig SP2022 I've been carrying and shooting at the range for the last several months. Did a lot better Sun. afternoon tho.
