Best .22 for a beginner?

I think I am going to buy a .22 handgun for my neice this Christmas. I have never owned a .22 handgun other than a Kadet conversion for my CZ-75. She is familiar with guns and Dad said it would be ok. I would just like to hear some advice from folks with more experience than I have in this department. Guys from the range have suggested a Browning Buck Mark, Ruger single six, Walther P-22, Sig's Mosquito, the list goes on. . . Let's hear it from YOU.

A Ruger Mark II/III. Great guns, only downside is tearing them down for a thorough cleaning, but probably only have to do that once a year. Reliable through several hundred rounds, and overall fun to shoot.

That being said, do you have any thoughts about her needing a firearm for other reasons(i.e. self-defense)? Depending on how much you want to spend, another option would be to purchase a 9mm(Glock 19 comes to mind) and buy a .22 conversion kit. Conversion kits are pretty easy to maintain, and she would also be practicing with the same firearm she would possibly use in self-defense.

.22 pistol for a beginner. yes the Ruger will be more accurate. The P22 will shoot good, be accurate at short distances, be 10 times easier to clean and maintain.

The Ruger Mark series (Standard, 22/45, MARK II & MARK III) are a blast! My MARK III Target BB makes short work of removing those pesky center rings from targets. You really cant go wrong with any of the variants of it. The break down is not as bad as some make it out to be once you hare familiar with it and there are a ton of parts available for them.

Good luck with you decision, if you get a chance try to shoot them all

ruger Mark II or mark III shoots anything in 22lr except subsonics, get the lightest one you can I have the competition model and some ladies say its heavy, I also have the single six shoots any thing in 22 long and magnums
If you want something a little light in revolver the bearcat is a great little gun as well
I also have the p22 in 3 inch barrel fun gun and light except you have to run bullets with a high velocity or it will not push the slide back to chamber the next round.
most bulk pack ammo works with this.
1 gun I would like to own is the Smith & Wesson Model 617 full size revolver ,ten rounds and double action
high cost though over 600 dollars
a little shorter barrel the 317 light wieght and seven rounds

The order I would look at is
automatic

1 ruger mark II or III
2 browning buck mark
3 walther p22

revolver

1 ruger single six
2 ruger bearcat
3 smith and wesson model 617 or 317

Buckmark gets my vote. Look at the Camper model for under $300.

Another vote for the buckmark or sig mosquito. The buckmark is easier to clean than the rugers and still very accurate. The mosquito will allow more of a standard semi-auto pistol platform to help familiarize herself with them more.
