Just purchased my first Springfield handgun, XD(M) Compact 45ACP and joined the forum. 20 years in the Marine Corps and I have handled guns since a young boy. This is an excellent list of safety rules.

To me, this is THE most important thread here!
Great list, hope everybody reads it, and re-reads it many times over!
Did a copy-pasta of it, going in my favorites, and emailing it to all my friends!
You can never have enough knowledge, self-awareness, and discipline when it comes to weapon safety!
All it takes is one stupid brain-dead mistake, then some one is dead or injured!

i understand why this is posted and its a great read for someone who does not know how to handle a gun such as a friend of mine. i know it happens all the time but no one should buy a gun unless they know how to handle it. that pretty much goes for anything in life actually.

Thanks for the work in posting this Old School. Safety is a very very important thing when what you are handling can take a life.

As I read the thread, I could hear verbatim in my head my weapons course instructor telling me the same thing.
Well written, to the point, and very hard to take two ways. Direct writing.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the great info, very comprehensive. Just purchased my first handgun, an XDm 40, and I will be saving these procedures so my wife can learn and review them and also to review them for myself.

Great info. Something that should be posted quarterly someplace so people don't have to stumble on it (like I did).
Thanks,
Joe
