Tell me why then almost every department carries only two exrta mags then. I mean there is some reason for it right? It's called statistics. Every police shooting is on file, and they use those files to make things called staistics. No they are just not some numbers that, someone makes up. They are real life facts. Also that is why every department carries a shotgun, and many now carrying some type of assault rifle.

I'm talking about primary, backup, rifles and shotguns. Officers tend to carry two extra mags because they already have so much crap on their belt. The statistics that you are quoting go back for yrs and will still hold up for most street crimes. They don't take into account that the world has changed. Police departments are slow to change. It has only been the last ten yrs or so that vest have become almost universal and mandatory in most areas. What works for you in Indiana is not automatically universal everywhere else. I know numerous rural deputies who carry a ton of firepower. Why, because they are on their own for quite awhile until help arrives and if they do get into a gunfight it is probably with multiple alien/drug runners. Extra ammo is never a bad thing, even if you never use it.

One of my biggest gripe with my XD9 is that it hold 16+1, where as my M&P9 is 17+1.
18+1....Nice!

I saw this post on the first page and had to reply. Is this guy serious? Your biggest gripe with this gun is over one round of capacity? You have to be kidding. If you are in a situation where you need to use your gun for self defense, you really do not even need 16+1. If you need that many rounds in your gun, you either cannot shoot, or you are trying to be a gangster g.

You surely mean 46 rounds, right?
They did let you carry a loaded gun, didn't they?

That's right, if you can't stop an undetermined number of assailants armed with an unknown amount of weapons with a 5-shot .38 then you must be a terrible shot.

I would rather have extra rounds and not need them than to only have a few rounds and wish I had more during a fight. You never know how many assailants there will be.
Why do you fill up your gas tank even if your only going a few blocks away? Because there might be an emergency where you can't stop for more gas.

Why doesnt everyone just carry 1rd, after all if it takes more than 1 shot you could already be dead.
Of course I want as many as I can cram into my gun and hope to never need them. I just wish the mags worked in my gun lol.

Yeah, I bet tons of you guys are defending yourselves against groups of Columbian drug dealers with automatic weapons, sorry. Ah god knows, that one bullet is the difference between life and death. I bet this mentality is one of the reasons that one out of every four law enforcement fired bullets hits flesh.

People generally fill their gas tanks full for the convenience of not having to stop for gas in between every destination. If one extra round in your gun is going to make a difference while you are shooting similar to that of a full tank of gas, then you must be emptying a great deal of magazines.

For me this discussion hasn't been about the one extra round, it's a bigger picture than that.
It's about doing what I can practically to be prepared for the unforeseen. I have carried a pocket knife since I was about 5 years old, not for violence but for "what if". it's the way I was raised. These days that knife always has two friends with it, a good flashlight and a reliable firearm.
I try to be a respectful, responsible, level headed, productive member of society. I carry a weapon as a part of who I am. Sometimes I need it for my job, sometimes I don't but I always carry.
I carry a Springfield XD9 because it's a modern, battle tested weapon made by a company who developed it out of necessity by standing on the shoulders of other great weapon designers.
I train with those who train the people who keep us safe, they train LEOs of all types that want to be better trained than they were at the academy, they commend my choice in firearm systems and that reaffirms my decision. I have a MecGar mag in the weapon on my hip right now because it allows the maximum capacity that this weapon can practically hold. My XD9sc has a XD40sc mag in it for the same reason. Why play on a level playing field when you can tilt it in your favor?
I'm happy about the informed decisions that I make and someone making fun of me with quips about Columbian drug dealers only makes themself look ignorant.
You can carry as little ammunition in your weapon as you see fit.
Me? I'm filling mine to the top.
