Barrell Question

I was just wondering... can you get a dropin aftermarket match grade barrel for the xd9 that will actually tighten up groups, and make the gun just all around more accurate??

Edit: I found the Bar-Sto ones that are $200 a piece, but has anyone had any kind of experience switching from the stock barrel to a performance/aftermarket barrel?

When it comes to accuracy with a handgun, the barrel is just a portion of the equation. Have you benched your gun? What kind of groups did you get?

Benched as in with a vise, or just from a rest?

Start with just a rest and see what you and the gun will do. My guess is, at 25 yards, you will have no problem hitting 3" groups. Keep in mind that many factors affect accuracy, barrel being just one. You have ammo, slide fit, trigger pull, grip, stance, sight alignment, etc.

Two be certain, a ransom rest is the way to go.

I understand that the barrel is only part of the process, but does a match barrel need to be "fitted"?

friend at the range dropped in a EFK Fire Dragon for the 9mm XD, and it was ready to go; another bud dropped in a Storm Lake 9mm for his Glock 17...again, no problem...I know that the concept of "drop in" does not apply to 1911's, which require that all new barrels, including factory replacements and "drop-ins" be fitted by a competent 'smith who knows his 1911's.
