Few upgrades

Just purchased a few upgrades for my XD - 9mm 4'' service model I purchased the magazine extension and the PRP X-treme grips awaiting for them to come in the mail. Also I am going to buy the PRP drop in trigger kit or the ultimate target match trigger kit not sure which one yet awaiting for the PRP crew to email me.

PRP is the way to go I have the drop-in trigger installed on my xdm 9. Definitely the best range gun I have now.

The guys at PRP recommended the Drop in trigger kit over the ultimate match target..Not sure what the other trigger kits actually do.

Out of the box an XD has a pretty long and heavy trigger compared to some other guns. A trigger kit shortens the pretravel (length of trigger pull prior to the sear releasing the striker) and over travel (length of pull after the sear releases the striker). I cant remember exactly but from the factory my trigger moved something like .6" prior to release and .4" after. The kit dropped it to something like .3" and .2" which means less trigger travel and a faster trigger reset.

The kit usually consists of a trigger bar and a sear. Depending on which kit you get it may also come with springs to drop the pull weight from ~6lbs to ~4lbs.

Some folks shoot fine without a kit. Some like it.

I just installed the PRP Match Ultimate trigger kit yesterday. It is very good but I'm not sure the drop-in kit wouldn't have been just fine.

Park, The XD and XDM have a very long travel when you pull the trigger until the gun clicks and goes bang then there is a very long trigger travel when you release the trigger until you can pull it again.

The PRP trigger kits reduce this extra travel to about 1\8 of an inch instead of the nearly 3\4 of an inch (or so it feels) in the stock model. The reset travel is also reduced but not as much since the travel to reset is not as drastic.

What is the difference between the PRP Match Ultimate and the Ultimate Target trigger kits? I would guess target means target shooting/range?

That's the $64,000 question. I shoot USPSA with this 5.25 so I went with the Match trigger and it will serve that purpose perfectly. For a non-competition gun, I would not use this kit. Far too little travel to be safe outside of competition (IMHO).

Ah I see pretty simple, I won't start doing things like that until I know I need it. I don't plan to competition shoot more just a day a week at the range or with a few buddy's.

When we say competition shooting, we don't mean 2 buddies at the range. This is what we are discussing. This is the elite class but you get the idea.
