Thumbs up Blackhawk Serpa

I just got my new holster from PistolGear.com.......I went with the Blackhawk Serpa holster for the added security. I love this thing!! By the way...Thanks Scott.....I got it sooner than I expected. I ordered another item from another website....not an XD sponsor...about a week before placing an order from pistol gear.....Just got an email that they are shipping the item today. PistolGear kicks a**!

Yes, they are a great holster. I use mine in IDPA match's, it works great.
Also, works well for CCW.

I have one for my 1911. I was quite impressed with the quality of it. I thought that the button would be hard to get used to, but it's in just the right spot for my finger when grabbing the gun. I've got mine attached to the paddle with the cant set all the way foreward. I like the fact that it comes with the paddle, which is very secure due to the "feet" on the back, and the belt attachment. I'm seriously thinking about getting one for my XD.

Great holster that fit both my 40 and 45 - right up until I added Dawson Adjustable FO sights to the 45. The front sight is now too high to fit this holster, so if you change sights, choose carefully.

Still do use the Serpa for daily CCW with my XD40 Service.

Yeah I wanted a holster with some kind of retention and I just didnt like the thumb break for some reason. I had to change the cant also, just feels better. And it fits the 9 and 45.

The Serpa system has gotten some bad press in the past, but I have heard that they have ironed out some of the issues. Most shooters that I know that have them, really like them. I actually prefer the standard non-Serpa holster myself. The adjustable retention works very well. The Serpa I tried out held the pistol too loosely for my taste. I sent it back to Blackhawk and they returned it to me saying, "The holster is designed for the weapon to be loose so the serpa lock will operate properly." The non-Serpa holds the gun secure, so I am sticking with that. Just my personal experience.

According to Paul Gomez, later versions of the Serpa seem to have beefed up the attachment to the paddle. I'm not aware of any improvements to the locking mechanism that changes the two other flaws of that system.
1, the ability for the mechanism to jam with only a tiny piece of grit and 2, the risk of an ND during the drawstroke under adrenal stress.
Both of those are showstoppers for me. I would never recommend that holster to anybody.
