Looking at mine there is no way a "pinsized pebble" would cause a jam. I am not defending my actions since I actually own one. Ill be the first person to tell you "I should have never bought ______, its the biggest piece of sh**!!". If I set the retention screw ALL the way the gun wont even come out unless I tug at it pretty hard which combined with a pebble might lock it up, but that would count as incorrect use of the holster. I saw the article from Paul on another link and since then I have been looking for another bad review and I have yet to find one. Do you own a serpa holster? Have you ever picked one up, or are you just going by what this particular review says? I know some people that would tell you that a Ferrari is a piece of sh**. I am not undermining the fact this this is a gun we are dealing with here and it can cause great harm, but like I said I would like to see a couple of bad reviews before writing this off as a bad holster. Just my opinion.

No, I don't own one. But I know Paul Gomez personally and not only is he former military/lawenforcement, he's also an accomplished instructor who specializes in force on force, CQB and adrenal stress training. He has an obscene amount of training time spent with almost every major gun school in the country. He also has NO reason whatsoever to try to make Blackhawk look bad.
And unlike the vast majority of people that write reviews, he has bought his own holsters. Nor was this problem observed only with one holster, but rather with several. I trust Paul's opinion, implicitly.
You gotta keep in mind something. If you look at most magazines and even most online publications, they, for the most part, review items sent to them by the manufacturer. If they write a bad review, said manufacturer may not wish to send them anything else. Nobody wants bad publicity. And a review is basically free publicity.
And the other factor is that most people that review stuff, rarely take them to a CQB/Force on Force class and spend a couple of hours rolling around on the ground trying to beat the crap out of some other guy while repeatedly drawing the pistol from the holster.
Lastly, Blackhawk has been aware of these issues for a couple of years now. So far, the only change they've made is to beef up the belt attachments. And they will also deny that there have ever been ANY incidents with the holster not working as intended.
Not a flattering picture.
I say again. Why spend money on an inferior product when there are better options on the market?

Would you have any idea where the better options can be bought and who makes them?

I just bought one of these like a week and a half ago. Not once have I ever pressed on the release with my fingertip. My finger is always straight when it comes out. It's also always straight anytime I pick up a gun. I can't say I'll be using this holster in any real world situations, I mainly got it to use at the range because I hated the XD gear one. Then again, i can't legally carry here anyway, concealed or open. Well, i can open carry but they want me to pay $105 to get a permit, then get harassed by cops and asked to leave stores if I open carry. I'm happy with the holster though. i can't comment on the problems mentioned about it, but for what I need it works. My finger being straight when I pick up a gun or draw the gun is so much habit now, that when I was playing a shooting game at an arcade with my nephew a few days ago, I noticed when I wasn't shooting, my finger was off trigger and straight hah.

I also like the rotating hood holster, but it will more than likely have the same issues because it is a mechanical part.

Look at the Safariland 6351 ALS holster. The locking system is activated by your thumb on the draw.
Jed, it's easy enough for most everybody to keep the finger straight and off the trigger when on a range or practicing your draw at home. It's a different story when you have to draw the weapon with somebody actively trying to kill you. Adrenalin changes many things.
I'm not saying that you WILL have an ND with this holster, but it's more likely than other systems, like for instance the Safariland ALS.

I have one of the Blackhawk Serpa holsters. I like it alot.
I've only had mine for 6 months, I also know 5-6 people who have had these holsters for close to a year....they all like the holster.
I use mine in IDPA matches, and have used it for daily carry.
NO problems at all.
I don't plan on rolling around in a sand box or a gravel pit, or TRYING to find some way to make the holster fail...just so I can say it did.

Very well said. Hearing comments from someone who has no experience with that holster (except from what he heard from someone else) doesn't sway me one bit. My Serpa stays where it's at, on my hip.
