Carry Sights?

I have an XD-45 Tactical, which I will be carrying (I know it's too big for alot of people, I assure you I can conceal it). I've really been wanting to put some adjustable sights on my XD that I'll be carrying. From what I've seen that basically leaves me with 2 options, the Dawson Precions, or the Bo-mar low rise. I was really wanting tritium in them, and until recently I didn't know bomar even made any with tritium. That kind of left me with the Dawson sights, except that they look to be way too tall to carry very easily or practically. That leaves me with some really expensive Bo-mar sights, that I have to also have installed since it requires milling, the slide, etc. The Bo-mar "lowrise" sights still look to be pretty tall, anybody had any experience with them on what is a carry weapon? Would ya'll suggest just forgetting about adjustable sites for a carry weapon, or does someone think one of the others might work? I believe if I have rich do them, I'll end up spending about $75 more (before shipping) and they'll be installed. Also, I need to call him tomorrow and see how much more they'll cost with Tritium in them. I'm a stickler for accuracy, even with a pistol that I intend on carrying (some might call it OCD). Because heaven forbid if I have to make a semi-longer shot, I really would like to make sure it hits it's mark exactly. Any help with this would be appreciated.

The Dawson Fixed sights are nice also and they aren't near as tall. They are acurate enough out to 50 yards. If you want night sights you might consider the Heine Straight 8's or TruGlo.

Heinie rear with XS standard dot here. Straight 8's on my 1911, straight 8's on my Glock. XS on my Kahr P45. I prefer the standard dot to the big dot. It is still easy to see but more accurate. The best set up have ever used was on a Friend's Wilson 1911, he had the standard dot up front, and the Novak U-notch rear. The U-notch had a tritium dot in it but it was not noticable in the daytime(the sight still looked black). The U-notch cradled the dot up front and was very fast.

I just had Springfield install the Dawson Adjustable Fiber Optics on my XD45 Tac and I can't tell you how great they are.

I also have a Blackhawk CQC holster that I really like and it worked well - until I put those sights on. The front sight is high enough that the gun no longer fits that holster. Not a problem for me because I ususally carry an XD40 Service, but I do have to find a new holster that will work with these sights (or buy another Blackhawk CQC and make a few mods to it).

If it's a carry gun..........why would you want to adjust the sights? It's going to be dead on to 15-20 yards, and most "encounters" occur at less than 7.

I like tru glow tfo's for carry.
I don't see a need for adjustable sights the correct installed fixed sights and proper grip and stance+Trigger control put them on the money.
I found with adjust ables I use to adjust them to my poor shooting techniques. Fix the problem not the sight is my .02

Thank you for all your information, I've looked over several different fixed sights as well, but don't know which system I might like better. I definately understand what you're saying R/T Performance about no need for adjustable sites. I'm a fairly new pistol shooter, so I've been working alot on proper shooting technique. Right now I still anticipate recoil just a bit, so at 20 yards, I still pulls shots about an inch to the left and an inch and a half or two inches low. I've put 1,000 rounds through my XD now, and still haven't adjusted the sites, because usually after I switch over from my .22, the first shot cuts out the X. I know it's the technique, and I'm not looking to compensate for bad technique with adjustable sites, I'd just like to have that option if I want to tweak it just a bit.

Knight of light, I'll have to check out the heinie sights, guess I'll have to try to rent or shoot a pistol with some. I'm not sure that I'd like lining up the two dots or be used to it, but I'd be willing to give it a shot. Shootist, did the dawson Rear sight work very well with your normal height XD's front? If this is the case, then I might not run into the problem QCA trader had with his holster. Any other suggestions for some nice accurate fixed site possibilities, that would be fast? I'd like to have 2 different colors, preferably green and red, or I think so. Thanks for all of your help
