The surefire come in different sizes for people with different size openings. There's also bud type ones with a behind the head band. I don't wear muffs due to glasses and I wear my surefire when training cause I can hear people and use the radio. They have a valve that closes furring a loud noise but you can still hear when not firing. I wear them all day as well.

I was sent some Surefire samples not long ago. Nice product but they don't offer enough db protection for me in an indoor range. I used their highest db rated version. Might be ok for outdoor shooting though.

Good point ridge. I've only wore them indoors once and didn't close off the plugs with the stopper. Ears were kind of ringing after but I figured the 350 rounds and that was the cause. I suppose I could look into others for indoor. The combat arms green and yellow ones work similarly. Just put the green half in for more protection.

I found pulling down on the ear lobe helps to seat the foam

I work in an industrial environment. Over the last 38 years, I've tried many kinds of hearing protection. The foam ear plugs work very well, if you use them properly.

You roll them up, then pull up on your ear while inserting them. Hold them in place, while still pulling up on the ear, until it has expanded. Repeat the process for the other ear. It takes a couple of minutes to properly insert them.

This works fine if you are going to wear them for hours at a time. Once you get used to them, you'll forget that they are there.

Do I use them on the firing range? No. I use plain old over the top of the head ear muffs there.

Why? Easy on, easy off. I can put the ear muffs on in just a couple of seconds, and take them off just as fast.

I wear safety glasses at work, and on the range. Because of the glasses, the ear muffs are not quite as comfortable as the foam plugs, but they sure are a lot more convenient.

The bottom line is that you need eye and ear protection on the firing range. Figure out what works best for you, and stick with it.

Maybe instead she should try different glasses, something with a much thinner temple that she won't notice under the muffs.

My wife and I use the Silencio silicon ear plugs. My Walmart used to carry them but stopped, I had to order them from Amazon (watch the shipping price). I have smaller ear canals and this model fits me better than other silicon plugs. Buy the ones with the cords, you can use them without the cords (my wife) or use them with. I also double up with electronic ear muffs.

A key to putting in ear plugs - pull up on the top of the ear to stretch/open the ear canal. Example, putting the plug in your left ear, reach over the top of your head with your right hand, pull up on the top of your left ear and install the plug with your left hand. That was something useful I got out of a safety class at work.
