I switched a few things around and have not noticed any goo, but then again I also did not rip it all off. It seems to be residue-free from what I saw. I also say these are fantastic. For me, it makes a big difference in gripping the firearm. I have smaller hands so it helps alot. The kit comes with a choice of an oval or teardrop shape to apply for index fingers. I went with the teardrop and used the extra oval piece to put on the pinky part of my pearce grips, holds very nice. On binding: I recently took an advanced carry class where we drew from holsters about 100 times. It did not bind on me one time. I noticed absolutely no interference with the holster. I was using a blackhawk CQC serpa for my XDm3.8C in 9mm. I also have worn the XD Gear holster around the house and have not noticed any binding either. Pearce Grip Extensions + PRP X-Treme rubberized grips = the first $30 to spend on upgrades, imo :) |
I have the rubber ones on my XDM 9 and the sand on my XDM 45 (they didn't offer rubber for the 45 when I ordered a few months ago. The sand looks cool with kind of a bluish tint and feels great - especially if your hands get sweaty, but I think that they are rough on the holster and clothes if you carry. The rubber looks and feels good, though not as grippy as the sand. If I start to carry the 45, I will replace the sand with rubber. I hope the old ones come off clean.

I use the Talon grip tape myself, but it would definitely be harsh on a carry gun.

my rubber kit is in the mail for my 3.8 9mm

I ordered the rubber ones for my XDM and they are on the way. |
ok, a modification update. First, thanks Croesius for the idea of using leftovers for the index finger. Feels pretty good to me and helps me index where my index finger is. A little extra tactile double check that I am nowhere near the trigger or the slide.
Next, I went hybrid. Originally I had rubberized PRP everywhere and used leftovers on the pinky surface of my pearce grip. Grip was a big improvement for my pinky. On my new gear-up mags that just came last week, I used cheap anti-skid traction sandpaper strips (lowes) and put that on the pinky of the pearce grip. Feels great! Much better than the PRP rubber. Other posters said the sandpaper grips on the entire weapon bound on holsters and clothes, but this is only on the one small surface of the pearce grip where the pinky rests, so I don't think it will be an issue. So far I like the combo of PRP rubberized on the weapon and a little extra sandpaper grip on the pinky of the pearce extension. I tried to take a picture of it but it did not turn out well. I'll try again tomorrow in daylight and see if it looks better. |

ok, so now that I've discovered that I really like the PRP rubberized and the little addition of sandpaper grip on the front of the pearce grip where the pinky goes, I've been doing a frankenstein on my XDm all weekend.
Here is what I'm using... Shop SKID GUARD 3/4" x 12 Anti-Slip Tape at Lowes.com I have small hands, so I'm cutting / using small pieces of the sandpaper on parts of the gun where I want a lot of contact to help increase my purchase, but not enough to basically rip off the PRP rubberized grip and just use sandpaper. For me, I've found that a little bit under my shooting thumb and a thin strip down the backstrap seem to help me hold a better grip. I've applied it both to the frame directly and on top of the PRP rubber. Yeah, I know, sounds hacky and ugly. Believe it or not, if you take your time to cut a good stencil it doesn't look bad. I do need to rework the back strap. Didn't realize how off it was until I took the picture, and it is still a work in progress as to whether I want / need all that extra on it. for sure, the thumb and pinky sandpapers are keepers for me. I'm still trying to figure out what piece of the back strap is giving me the most benefit. I'll probably end up peeling off 2 out of 3 when I figure that out. At the end of the day, this is not a safe queen. It is my personal protection tool and I don't care a whole lot what it looks like as long as it works better than it did before my mod. I didn't like how the backstrap piece wasn't cut out, so I didn't install it. I may cut it out myself at some point, but I like it. I didn't want to install any of the other pieces included, as I like it simple.

So I ordered my rubber grips and it took a little over a week to get in. Well my Mom is in the hospital (heart attack, but had surgey and getting better everyday!) so icould but couldn't wait to get home to put them on. Well, I guess I was having a brain fart when ordering them but I have a sub compact XD40 and didn't realize that they were for the compact. Well I think I figured out how to make them. If you put in the extended mag then it's the correct size but I will have to do a little trimming but I think it will work. Just don't have the time right now but once Mom gets out it's on! This has been stressful and not to mention I've got a couple of boxes of ammo ready to go...
