Trijicon new. HD. Night sights

This is a discussion on Trijicon new. HD. Night sights within the SA-XD/XD(M) Accessories forums, part of the XD Talk category; seems like all the manufacturers suggest you change them out with a press, but I have seen the how to on the XS site website ...

seems like all the manufacturers suggest you change them out with a press, but I have seen the how to on the XS site website where they use a punch to remove and install. I will probably buy a press for when i change mine out!

Anyone have any real specs? It mentions that the front sight is taller, what is the real number vs their standard front sight? How about width? Is the sight wider than their normal front sight? The U in the rear notch doesn't do a thing for me, but really like the ability to rack the slide easier off of the rear sight notch built for this. Instead of hypotheticals, I would like to see some real numbers.

I think James with XD-HS2000 will do mine as soon as they arrive.
Well that explains why my Trijicon sights were both busted when I got my Heinie Straight 8's on my XD9, direct from Springfield. I've seen a lot of posts from other people that had them broken as well. Sounds like Springfield doesn't know how to properly install them.

XD sights are notorius for being very tight indeed. I have personally put a new XD M in a Trijicon vise and cranked the handle so much that I started to worry about the frame, the tool or something else was going to bust. I gave it back to the owner and told him that even though I have the tool, he needed to take it to a pro to install these and not a shade tree pistol hack like myself.

Note I had the right tool and have changed out many Glock sights but this particular XD sight was not moving. Just wanted you to know that if you buy the tool, it doesn't mean that you will successful. A bigger hammer might be the answer, but I felt very uncomfortable using one on someone else's gun.

Anyone have any particular tricks to doing these with a vise, let me know.

Its true. I was gonna have a local shop install my triji's and they said "we use the same tool SA uses. They sent us one" I asked what it was and they said it was a punch.

I got the trijicon HD's installed on mine a few weeks ago. James from xd-hs2000.com did them for me.

I love these sights. Great night sights for home defense and nighttime carrying. And they're amazing for shooting IPSC/IDPA too. Wide rear notch makes it easy to find the front dot, and it's impossible to miss that big glowing orange dot. Especially out in the sun, or really any outdoor shooting in the day (even cloudy or under a roof) that orange dot is so bright. Also in low lighting if there is any kind of light source behind you, even very faint light, that orange dot will show up. Don't really need it at night because the green dots show up very nicely, but it's a nice little extra.
