Great Carry Flashlight Review

So I was at Wal-Mart recently and just stopping to see if any ammo was available and well like always nothing. So I turn around and there was a wall of flashlights. After reading an article about flashlights ( Pretty good article I suggest you read it http://www.bridgeportshootingrange.c...olTheNight.html ) and carrying I decided to look for a nice carry flashlight to carry day in and day out.

Personally I would rather not buy a $100+ flashlight. I like bright lights and wanted one with atleast 100 lumens. Then I saw a small about 4 in. long 1 inch diameter flashlight stating output of 115 lumens. I was shocked at the amount of light this can put out. For the low price of $25 and being a name brand like Coleman I bought it. It was the Coleman Cree Xlamp XR-E LED light.

Got home took it out of the package inserted the two CR2 batteries (the only downfall to the light is the battery type) and using the momentary on tailcap button lit up my room. This was a very bright little light. The light also has steady on feature and came with a little lanyard.

Since I bought this flashlight it has been in my pocket, small enough where it's not in the way and bright enough to light up the night. Not only does this light have awesome output of 115 lumens but the distance was amazing as well, lit up my neighbors house across the street and would easily be able to identify someone at such distance (approx. 100 yds) It definitely is comparable to other flashlights I have rated at 150 lumens and which are double or triple the price.

Pro's
-Momentary or steady on tailcap
-Small size 4'' 1'' diameter
-Light weight
-Inexpensive $25
-Lanyard
-Name brand Coleman with 3 yr manufacturer warranty
-Light output 115 lumens
-O-ring for water resistance
-Solid construction
-Battery life (I don't know actual battery life but stated on package 2 Hrs)

Con's
-So far just the type of battery.

All in all I highly recommend this product for the cheap at heart but safe in mind. This light will be more than enough to see down that alley way or where you dropped your keys. Also will definitly disorient or temporarily blind a suspect. For just $25 you can't go wrong.

This is the link to Wal-Mart.com the actual product page which also has some high reviews. Walmart.com: Coleman Cree XLamp XR-E LED Flashlight, 2 CR2: Camping

Any idea on how many hours of use you get on those batteries in this light?

I had this light and liked it, but buying 2x CR2 batteries all the time for $5/ea made no sense. So I bought a Fenix P2D. It's smaller, brighter, runs on 1 CR123 that can be bought at Outdoor Warehouse for just over $1/ea, plus it has 4 output modes including a blinding strobe. The clicky it came with was a reverse (non-tactical) clicky, so I replaced it with a forward clicky from lighthound.com I believe it was. I absolutely LOVE this light and it's always in my pocket.

CREE Bulbs are amazing and lightyears ahead of the Xenon bulbs. They are twice as bright, last over twice as long, and you can use more powerful batteries (or rechargables) in them.

You can get a small surefire sized one that runs on 3 "aaa" batteries at 160 lumens for 2.5 hours. You can get them on eBay for under $10 and they are indestructable (a nice feature that you can't say about Xenon).

I've dropped my CREE a dozen times onto concrete and they still work to this day. Drop a Xenon on concrete and you'll be ordering a replacement bulb.

I've been considering the Coleman for a while. I was previously told the run time left some to be desired but otherwise it's a great light. I keep an eye out on them, hoping they get clearenced at some point. They also make a 2AA version IIRC. For now, I found a Garrity CREE at Publix for $6 and have been carrying that. Puts out 45 lumens and runs on 3 AAAs.

Yep, i picked the 2 AA one up last week. Not being able to spend $100 on a light i thought i'd try this Coleman and wow, what a bargain!

I carried the Surefire C2 Centurion for 2 years before it got stolen. I had the P61 lamp in it which kicked it up to 120 lumens but decreased the run time to 20 minutes. After that light disappeared, I replaced it with the 80 lumen Surefire 6P. I love that light and i personally think that it is better than my old Centurion. My only gripe is the pricey 123a batteries. I've had the 6P for about a year now and use my light all the time and am still on the original set of batteries.

The a few months ago I was in Cabelas and saw a little light by the checkout stand and wandered over to check it out. I discovered that like my 6P, it too was 80 lumens and ran on 2 AA batteries. It was only $29.99 so I purchased it and took it home to test it out.

The differences between the Cabelas brand light and my Surefire 6P were:

Roughly $40 price difference.
123a vs AA batteries
Cabelas was skinnier but slightly longer
Cabelas has only a click on/off tailcap
Cabelas has a pocket clip
The Surefire's beam was slightly wider in all directions, but the Cabelas beam was more focused

Overall I still like my surefire but I wouldn't hesitate to carry my Cabelas light as a replacement. And for those on a budget I would definately recommend the Cabelas light. Just my 2 cents...

Here's a link for the Cabelas light:

If you don't mind me butting in here, I believe that's "Fenix". A buddy of mine had one over in Afghanistan and it was outstanding. Uber bright, thin, had four modes and ran on two AA batteries (and he always used rechargables, so he never had to buy new batteries).
If his light had a 'Tactical' endcap switch I would have been all over it.
I really need to get myself another decent tactical light.
