Bluegrass Hybrid Holster Review W/PICS

So I got this holster exactly 10 days ago & thought I would wear it abit before I gave a slight review on it. Its a Bluegrass Hybrid Holster & its the Mason Dixon Model. I got it for my XDM.

Fit & Finish--- I will say its top notch. Excellent stitching & to me visually its 1 of the best looking Kydex style holsters on the market. Ive been wearing IWB the most & its more comfortable to me than my MTAC was. I been wearing it between 3:30 & 4 oclock & I just really like how it rides. Ive worn it on long rides plus out to eat & doing all the married errands the wife has me do with no discomfort whatsoever.

This holster is designed to be worn either way. IWB or OWB. This has been my first Exp wearing OWB & its def a little more comfortable than IWB although I probably wont be going OWB very often. I did notice a little squaeking/creaking at first wearing it OWB but that went away after the 2nd day.

Also just as a note if you do plan on ordering & this applies only to the XDM ONLY Brock with Bluegrass holsters is working with the Kydex manufacture about The XDM Shells. The but of the gun tends to stick out abit when being worn OWB. This issue is only with the XDM,s & he will either send out a new backing or a new kydex shell once we figure out the root of the issue. Weve talked a few times & hes narrowing down the exact problem & assures me he will take care of it.

Would I recommend this holster?---- Yes I would. With all the different options of replacement shells & being able to change out the backs you cant go wrong.

Price--- Its a little cheaper than both Comp-Tac & Supertuck & it seems to be a little better built. Also if you decide to but multiple Kydex shells for different guns they are cheaper than Comp-Tac as well. They are also running 10.00 off for a limited time since he just went live witht he website.

If you want 1 heres the site. http://www.bluegrasshybridholsters.com/
If you dont ind just drop a little note saying Jason/Eyebedam told you about the new holsters. Brocks been a really straight up guy with me & I just want him to know I really appreciate it.

So Heres some pics & no jokes on my beer belly either.

Looks like a good deal.

Can you get more specific on a few things:
In what way is it more comfy than the MTAC? I ask because I've found my MTAC to be utterly comfortable (definitely moreso than the Supertuck that I had) and I couldn't imagine it being more comfortable but I'd like to hear your thoughts on where you felt the MTAC was lacking in comfort and how this fills that gap.

Also, how is it better built than the MTAC? The MTAC has excellent construction and looking at the pics of the Bluegrass it looks a little rougher than the MTAC and the stitching doesn't look quite as clean in places. Also in the pic the kydex doesn't look as nice to me but it's just a pic so I can't really make that call.

From the website it looks like the cant is not adjustable like the MTAC. Am I correct on that?

Would like to hear your thoughts on those questions because it definitely looks like a great deal.

Brad The MTAC I had was for a EMP which is a smaller gun. It seemed like I couldnt ever find a sweet spot with it. I was constantly having to change it around on my body. It was a very finely made holster so I dont want anyone to think I was bashing them.

Now as far as the Kydex goes the Kydex on my bluegrass seems a little nicer than the Kydex on the MTAC I had. The Kydex clips for the Mason Dixon are adjustable just like the MTAC but theres only 3 holes on it where there were 5 on my MTAC.

As far as comfort after my 2nd positioning of the Bluegrass I found exactly where it needs to be. Im also carrying alot larger framed gun & it doesnt seem to dig in my hip at all. Overall I feel like this is a better value & works alot better for me. I hope this was helpful.

Brad, mine is on the way so I can let you know more tomorrow when it arrives. However, I also have the MTAC and love it so I'll be doing a similar comparsion. However, I order the MD more for the OWB then IWB. However, by installing the clips in the different holes the cant is adjustable the same as the MTAC. See the last picture. Also, the MD has option of horsehide rear, front, or regular all the way around. I'll let you know what I think as well.

I spoke with Brock at Bluegrass Holsters for over an hour a couple of weeks ago. We talked about the design of the various offerings he had.

I too picked the Mason Dixon mainly because of the ability to wear OWB and IWB at will. I carry mostly OWB now because my job allows me to wear openly. My holster should arrive this week. I also ordered a new belt from Brock.

I am currently an Mtac user and have been for nearly a year now. The Mtac has been absolutely wonderful to carry in. Very comfortable and very well built. I hope the MD is as you say it is! This will be a wonderful replacement for my Mtac.

Also, on the XD-M grip sticking too far out, I don't see, from the photos, how you are going to get it much closer to the body. It looks like it wears exactly like my XD45acp Service does in my Mtac.

However, the photo may not show everything so I will wait to see how my 1911 sits. I plan to order one of these for my XD45acp as well.

I also have a MasonDixon on the way for my XD45compact. If Eyebedam doesn't mind I'll post some pics & opinion also on this thread. Maybe it'll help people out a little if all the info is in one spot.

That is perfectly fine with me. I agree all the info in 1 spot will be good.

scraches

Im worried about my gun getting scratches or wear marks from holstering and re-holstering. Can you guys give me any input on that please? Its all black, and I already have a small scratch on it from the slide release.

Over a extended period of time of holstering & use all guns will have some finish rub off & wear marks. It just adds character IMO. If you make sure to periodocially wipe down the inside shell of the holster & remove any debris that may accumalate in there it will greatly reduce this from happening.
