Every conversion I've seen includes a new slide as well as firing internals and magazines. If this is the case it would be possible to use the same kit on 9mm/.357sig/.40S&W, because the lower would be of the same dimensions. My guess is that this would be the biggest segment of the market, and is probably what they are working on.

I also hope they go through with this. I have modified my xd service. If I had a conversion kit, I would loose my fiber adjustable sights. The conversion would not be for self defense, so maybe they would offer adjustable vs. fixed. The advantage to the conversion would be to keep my upgraded trigger, mag release, and the items I intend to upgrade: slide release, magwell, and grip reduction. I assume the conversion would have the same size slide so that it could use the same holster. Looks like a conversion might be worth while.
I am surprized that glock or SA hasn't made a dedicated 22lr. I wanted the walther p22, but didn't trust the mixed reviews. It seems that the glocks and xds are more popular than walther. I wonder if they could turn a profit from a dedicated 22.
I have to say that I have started to use my Ruger Hunter 22lr for steel competition and have been very happy with it. I found a holster and am working on making a mag pouch for it. I am excited to try them out.

I have been soo wanting a 22 conversion for my XDm.
Is the conversion only for the XD, or is the XDm also being worked on?

Any more updates on this? I am in the process of looking for a Ruger MKII, III, 22/45 or Buckmark. Or even that new GSG 1911 if I can wait until March or so (want wait at least a month for reviews on brand new gun).
But if this is really coming for the XDm 9 then this changes everything, at least for me.

Anyone know if they announced anything about this at the SHOT show? I am eager to hear if it is going to be a reality, and if they're making a kit for the XDm line also.

From The Packing Rat:
In the near future, they’re going to develop conversion kits for the Springfield XD and Smith & Wesson M&P.
To give you an idea how much this kit might cost, the 1911 conversion kit’s MSRP is anywhere from $470.00 to $575.00.
