Question Does a laser stay sighted when removed/installed???

Dumb question, do lasers stay sighted in if you remove them from the rail on pistol, and put them back on?? Or do you have to sight it in again like with rifle scopes? Just a curiosity thing really, don't plan on getting a laser.

kept pretty darn good.

Arrow I didn't think it would move a lot.

I thought on a pistol, if it moved, you probably wouldn't notice. Not like my mosin, where @ 100 yards I shoot at office dots. Even my shotgun seems to be off when I remove the barrel, still haven't figured that one out.

Depends on the pistol and laser. Higher quality guns and lasers should have no problems.

I would typically never trust my laser to be dead on after reinstalling. It should be close but you can not really trust it to be automatically zeroed. Good idea to get a laser boresighter and check how the dots match up each time. Or at least make reference points from your irons.

In theory it should not change, the guide rod lasers may be the exception, I don't know. You need not run to the range every time you remove the laser. A quick check that the laser dot should basically lines up with your front sight at what ever distance you have sighted it in.

x2

Using the bore sight laser method is quick and easy, just make the adjustment to meet at a known distance and it should stay pretty close as long as you mount it the same way each time. Do a quick check with the bore sight and then you'll know if there are any stability problems after you send a few rounds downrange by checking it again. After all that you'll have proven (or dis-proven) the whole concept. I'd be more worried about dead-on accuracy if it were a scope mounted to a rifle though.

I think unless you know the trajectory of the round and the distance between laser and center of bore, you're never going to be dead-on except at one known distance anyway. Lasers go straight, rounds don't. So, I use about 30 ft and am confident I can hit my target with that.

My Crimson Trace on XD 40SC stays dead on when I remove it for super-cleaning and put it back on.
