Check out this rust... HS2k

Rusty HS2K

It will be going back to Springfield for sure. My only question is do I want to do a regular melonite finish or do I want to have it go to the custom shop for the Black T finish... Choices, choices.

So does anyone have any info about the Black T finish? Dont know if I should save the money or not. My Google-fu is strong, but I really haven't been able to find much info anywhere. Please help.

I already have an RA number for an FTExtract problem, but now it looks like it gets to get refinished as well.

Good thing I've got a lot of other guns to tide me over.

thats bad...

I'm not sure how some of you guys getting such bad rust issues.

I've owned blued steel guns and Stainless steel guns - some are bare(like my XD Bitone), and some are coated(My M&P) - and I've NEVER had any issues with rusting.

And I'm not that much of clean freak....

I'm sure SA will make it right I imagin. I'd go with melonite personaly, because I myself NEVER had any issues with it

Well, its been abnormally humid lately and the descant in my vault in the garage needs to be changed badly. This thing got a good cleaning, light wipe down and then into the safe for 3 weeks. Took it out and there was that WTF look on my face.

It was so bad that the striker wouldnt even move. If I had needed it for SD, I would be dead right now.

Its now at Springfield and it is in the process of receiving the SA Custom tritium nightsights and the Black T coating.

I sent her off yesterday and I already miss her!!!

2 months 29 days and counting...

Man, put a warning on the Link or something. It hurts to much to see those pictures. Warning, these pictures are disturbing and can cause nightmares.

You just made me go look at my guns to make sure they are OK

Oooh. What the heck does the inside of the gun safe look like? What's it make out of...SALT?

That's extreme for 3 weeks, but you have the pics to prove it. Nice post.

All of my other guns in there are fine. They are all melonite or tenifer though or the Sig Nitron.

This was a blued gun. Only reason it rusted before the rest.

Nah... its going for the Black T finish.

Black T is used on many naval submarines as a corrosion inhibitor and works better than anything else out there.

Mr. Birdsong also expressed to me with great passion that Black T actually provides more lubrication dry than it does wet, so oil or grease will just add drag to the parts. He did say that if it made me feel better about not running a dry gun though, that I could oil it as much as I want.

If the Black T is everything that I have read it to be, then I will be sending my P228 to him for the full treatment on it as well.

If humidity is really an issue, you should change the coating on the weapon. There is some high rust resistant coatings out there!! I've done it..
