Regards Rust

Alright heres a question for all you smart XD owners out there. How can you make sure that the XD at the gun store is made with the new rust proof material? I have a feeling my local discount gun shop might be selling the old versions. Is it recognizable through Serial Numbers?

I didn't know they changed, but the first sign of wear or rust, I am coating it in Cerakote. (Some inside intel) I heard that SA is thinking of starting to use Cerakote like S&W and TC does.. that would be nice!!!!

How would you do the Cerakote coating? You do it yourself or send it to someone else to get it done?? If someone else, who??

Thanks in advance for the info.......

oh sorry, thought you knew... NIC Industries – Leading Manufacturer of Performance Proven Coatings does firearm coatings and its awesome. Because of the process, you have to have a "qualified" applicator do the work for you, but for job is was well worth it. They did my MKII, shotgun and my XD mags... nice stuff!!!

Is there a certain way you can figure out if the Xd came with the Bruniral treatment vs. the Melonite?

What caliber are you looking at??? From what I understand all of the 45ACP's have the melonite finish. As far as the others I'm not sure, unless it's new of course. Most discussions about this have resulted in a call the SA customer service dept. with the serial number and find out if your particular gun is melonite or not answer. Good luck and hope this helps.

Aww your awesome. I was looking at the 45.. I think your right though, because the old finish I believe was 2006 and older; whereas, the 45 came out in 2007?

I have an older XD-9 that has the rusty type finish. Every XD you buy now should have the new finish no matter what the caliber or size.
