Both the XD and the M&P have Melonite treatment . More M&P' s seem to have rust issues . And the M &P's havent been out as long as the XD's , so what do you think?
The Glock 21 is a freaking brick. Like most full sized Glocks. The compact frames are the only Glocks I like.

re: rust

"We already know that the stainless slide does not allow for the most corrosion resistant Melonite process available. We also know there was a run of pistols that were not run through the salt bath properly that resulted in some easily developing rust.

The glock isn't stainless, so it can have the anti-corrosive version of melonite applied. The M&P is stainless, so it can't.

However, S&W had some QC issues with the finishing process in the past where they were running too many parts through the salt bath. The net result is a chemical process that actually ACCELERATES corrosion. It is most definitely a warrantable item".

Here is the mags. As far as ANY wear, it diesn't happen. This black mag was installed 30 times to see if any wear or scratches was going to happen, some light marring happened and it was removed with a light rub of the thumb..

When did they start using the Melonite?

I was at a local shop today with the sales guy talking about the rust problems with the XD's. Would he have been talking about models prior to the Melonite process being used? Or, is there problems with rust from time to time?

He was big on the Glocks also with the lack of rusting and fewer parts to deal with.

The older XDs had rust problems. The current ones are fine. And the Glock does have a awesome finish with less parts.
