Rust on my slide... again!

Ok, I have a 9mm XD SC. I have 3 different holsters, a Blackhawk Serpa, a Galco leather IWB and a ballistic Mike's ballistic nylon OWB holster.

When I wear my IWB, I've noticed that moisture build up between the leather and the slide. Over the course of one day this caused surface rust on the slide. Thing is, I'm wearing skivies and a undershirt, so that's between me and the leather. Is there anything else I can do to prevent this short of chroming the slide?

If there isn't a good choice, where can I get my slide matte chromed?

gun coating

If you want to end these problems, get your gun coated with Cerekote. Many colors to choose from. It is the hardest gun coating on the market and last a life time. The mfg is NIC Industries... good luck

I just Nickel plated a XD slide and now offering Cerakote too, so I ve had some experience with the rust issues ( on all different brands , not just XD alone ). I think the XD line is something I ll see quite a bit of because of the rust problems. But in short, I think the best alternative is to refinish it. I dont know why the XD models seem to rust so terribly compared to other models. I ve read all the hoopla all over about it. So I am not looking to re up postings about why they rust or why they dont etc.

I guess I am just saying , I had a race car that kept giving me carb issues. I tried and tried to tinker with it. The car just would break into the 10's ( 1/4 drag car ). No matter what I did, taking it all apart , changing this , changing that, jetting this and that etc. I finally came to the conclusion that there had to be a part casting or machine problem with it. My buddy had a beat up old crusty looking Holley identical to my 830 Holly to mine. I swapped them out at the track, wrong jetting , pump squirters were too small etc. Just not dialed in at all for my car. Heck it had been sitting in his trailer for 3 years or so LOL!!

My point, the car ran a 10.80 first pass, ran a 10.7x next pass and shot the drive shaft out the third pass when it left the line so violent and hard I thought I was going to hit the guard rail.

I think in a sense to relate this to your situation is unless you really take care of it the way it probably should be taken care of ( replace the carb , or in your case refinishing it ) , then your going to keep having issues with it like you are.

Doesnt XD warranty some of this stuff ? I thought they refinished some of these as warranty ?

Good luck
Todd

I am going to finish polishing it out tonight and try to get pictures of it. But I have alot of orders to try and fill ( had a big sale ) so it might not be for a day or two before I can post pictures.

Thanks

Call SA customer service with the serial number if it is pre- melonite finish they will refinish for you under warranty, I believe they may even pay for at least half the shipping cost.

I love the XD, but to be honest I've never seen so many rust issues from one make and model gun. I've owned quite a few pistols (28 total) and never had any rust issues with Glocks, Walthers, Steyr, Sigs, or XDs for that matter (the ones that I owned/haven't owned a XD pistol for over a year now). XD pistols have allot going for them, but the rust issue is a major item that they need to fix. Do other pistols rust, yes, but I've never heard of, nor ever experienced any rust issues with any of the 18 Glocks I had over the last 2 years. Having a XD talk section called "Rusty Tales" is a very sad sign for the XD. I can't recall seeing any other pistol forum having an entire section dedicated to talking about rust problems. Now, with that off my chest, I'm thinking of getting the newer XD-45 with the thumb safety. XD still has one of the best grip angles out their (not quite as comfortable as the M&P, but a way more reliable firing pistol in my opinion).

Take Care and God Bless!

Ronin
