How common is this?
I tend to be long winded sometimes so I will try to keep this short:
I am thinking about buying an XDm when I get back from Iraq. I fired a friends XD9 before I left The States and really liked it. Was thinking of buying the two tone model, it is buy far one of the sexiest guns I have ever seen. How big of a problem is this? How often do these guns rust? Is it any better on the all black model or do they tend to rust too? I know how to take care of a gun and keep it properly lubed, but the fact that there is a whole section dedicated to rust on this forum makes me a little nervous. Thanks in advanced for your answers. -James |

The two tone model has a stainless steel slide and polymer bottom. Clean and lube it once in a while and you will have no problems.
Early model XD pistols had a different finish and there were some rust problems. The new pistols don't have that problem.

The bi-tone is my daily carry weapon. I work outside everyday and i sweat all over it, gets dirt and water on it and i have not had any rust. I have just made it a routine that when i go to bed i just wipe the outside of the slide down with either a silicone cloth or i keep a piece of cloth with some gun oil on it in a ziplock bag. Just take care of it and it will take care of you. -Phoenixd45

Awsome!
Excellent. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Living in Kansas I am not expecting humidity to be an issue with any firearm, but still I just wanted to make sure, since there is a whole section devoted to it here.
I have not decided whether or not this will be a daily carry weapon, as I don't know how easily I will be able to conceal it. At minimum it will be an occasional open carry weapon; then there is always range time too! Now I can't wait to go home on leave and buy one... Thanks again for your responses!! -James |
