I have a XD40SC with the Melonite treatment and I carry IWB against my skin, and have had no issues with rust showing up on the slide, untill today.

I decided to do a complete take down of the slide, and I did come accross some rust underneeth the base of the extractor, and that was it. (I think it may have been from the extractor, rather than the slide) other than that everything looked good (there was some carbon in some of those nooks and crannys, but nothing major)

Rust

Just curious to know if rusting is a general issue or more specific to any particular part of the country. I would imagine there would be more problems for those living in the northwest or northeast part of the U.S. or any part of the country that has a high humidity leve... Comments?

I found rust on my magazine release. It's under the frame. When you push the button either left or right you can see it. Any thought on how to treat this?

I bought an XD9sc new about a year ago - only two or three months down the road - I sweat on it a bit (near the sight channel on the rear of the gun) - I saw light surface rust - bascially just a discoloration... I decided at that point I was just going to have it nickle plated and be done with the rust - I haven't looked back - it's been great since then... I highly recommend that anyone who has any rusting issues (some peoples skin is more acidic than others) definitely look into a nickle treatment.

Ive had my XDsc9mm since '03 "with the old" finish and never once had any rust.It was daily carry for years until my XD45 came along.I guess maybe some ppl have some funk leaking out of them to make guns rust lol I dunno.
