The stainless version is.....stainless and stainless guns can and do rust, that includes all brands. Some people think because it's called stailess it should not rust, that is wrong. The stainless version also has NOTHING to do with the melonite finish so your post (so much for the new finish) is VERY misleading, 2 tone stainless models do not have said finish.

I am more then aware that stainless steel can rust. I was under the impression that the stainless guns were also melonite treated. I thought Melonite was a process that treated both stainless and nonstainless steel. I guess I was wrong chime in if you know.

Everything I found indicates the stainless guns are just that, plain stainless steel. Only the "blued" models get the melonite finish. I experienced similar rusting issues with a new Sig pistol, they only use their Nitron on the blue models, while the new 2-tone versions are a just stainless steel. I tend to shy away from stainless only weapons for that reason, my sweat seems to be able to rust almost any "stainless steel" sidearm.

I understand the bi-tone guns do not have any Melonite treatment of any kind on them. I have a bi-tone XD and when I called to see when it was manufactured, I asked and was told it does not have the Melonite treatment.

Get a silicone impregnated cloth and wipe it down before returning it to the safe. It will not rust or pit anymore. (Even the bi-tone models.)

I carry my 5in tactical model on duty five days a week in a salty air environment along the south Texas coast. I have had mine for over 6 months and no signs of rust... yet.

I'm Glad I joined XD talk. I'm waiting for my paycheck to buy me my first XD (40 sub) and was thinking of getting the bi-tone. I think know I'll just get the OD green to stay on the safe side. Thanks guys

If you check my thread on Sent to Springfield, I have an XD Tactical which was purchased before they started using melonite. Shipped my gun to Springfield on June 17th as their instructions, hope to have it back soon.
