stainless is exactly that, stain-LESS it has to be abused quite a bit to get rusting, but his might just be getting early stains of rust color from being in a sweaty pit

Second instance of this I've read from two different people in about 3 days. And here I was considering getting a Bi-Tone Compact. Guess it will be the black slide for me.....

Did you take care of your gun? I.E. Clean it after range trips and keep it oiled properly?

My bi-tone XD would "freckle" (get minor spots of surface rust) even after minor handling. By minor I mean after a range tip it would be cleaned and put in a padded case in the closet. I'd take it out a week later, and no rust then, but if I handled the slide and then put it away, a few days later I'd have rust on it.

Ended up sending it to Springfield's Custom Shop for a Black-T finish and some other stuff. That fixed it but not in the way I would have wanted originally.

I doubt it's rust, probably blowback speckles or something. Even if the stainless DID rust somehow, it shouldn't spread like with iron/plain steel. Polish it off, Eezox it, and keep shooting, whiner!

My $1,000+ Kimber came with rust on the barrel out of the box. Sure I bitched a bit about that on a gun that cost 2x my XD's, but a little Flitz and it was good to go. No problems a year later.

If the stainless rusted, I bet the black would have rusted twice as much. And never store a pistol in a padded case. Or foam case. Unless you want it to rust.

You can also send them directly to Birdsong for Black-T, and skip the Springfield markup.

Hey Rusty,

It would rust in between range visits. I'd have it clean in the closet, take it out to do a few dry-fire trigger presses, and return it to the bag. A few days later I'd take it out and it would have rust on the spots of the slide where I handled it.

jnclement,

Sure can! I had Springfield's shop do other stuff to it as well, though (like night sights, Bar-Sto barrel, etc.).
