Gun Cleaning How Often
I do not know how long it has been since I have cleaned any of my guns. I have been married for 9 yrs and had 3 kids and have not cleaned one since before then. How often do you recommend cleaning them? What kind of supplies do I need to clean a.22lr pistol and rifle, 25-06 rifle, shotguns, and of course an XD40. Can I get a kit somewhere? I need to get into a habbit of doing it.

I clean after every time I go shooting, though I know some who would say that is a bit overkill, especially when I only shoot 50 rounds or something.
I use Hoppes #9 solvent and oil (smells great!). Bore snakes for different calibers are generally pretty cheap. Pipe cleaners soaked in solvent are great for getting in the little crevices. Don't use Q-tips, they get little bits of cotton everywhere.

I use the boresnake immediately after shooting while it's still hot and it helps tremendously. I usually won't even field strip until at least 200-300 went through. When I do a full clean I use Breakfree CLP, boresnake and a compressor or canned air to blow it out is just about all I ever need. Old t-shirt rags and Q tips for excess.

I clean my carry guns once a week. The other ones get cleaned when they get shot or get a wipe down once a month.

Whenever I get a chance. All of my guns are reliable enough to where I dont have to clean too often.

I usually go to the range 2 to 3 times a month and I try to clean them every time I fire them. I feel guilty if I even put it off by a day or two.

After every shoot, cuz if I go shootin' it's going to be at least a couple hundred rounds. I like to keep my babies clean all the time.

My other guns get cleaned when they are shot, I don't do any scheduled maintance cleaning. I certainly don't do the 'wipe down once a month thing'. My guess is you're a noob to gun ownership or have less than 5 Only one gun do I make sure to clean atleast twice a year and that was my grandfathers. Beyond that I've got guns I haven't fired or cleaned in years . Guns I know I won't be shooting for awhile get a fairly thorough cleaning and heavy oiling. My lever action 30-30 is one of them... that goes out maybe one a year.

After every shooting session. It's easy. It doesn't take long. It gets you very familiar with your weapon. And it smells great!!!
