Well I go a little overboard on this one Not that they need it just something I enjoy doing I take all my guns (19)out of the safe every three months and clean them up and I dont mean a just a wipe down I feildstrip each gun and thoroughly check them then clean them with breakfree, hoppe's,swab, reoil,or gun butter what ever is needed (they are not caked with oil or grease just coated in areas needed)then reassemble wiped them down with a gun cloth and put them back to bed.And if I go to the range I like to run a boresnake though them before I leave the range and when I get home I will feildstrip and give them a good cleaning.

Hey englandcrown you got that right but anytime

+1 on If you don't love the smell of Hoppes in the morning, there is something wrong with you!

a. Weapon should be cleaned and oiled not later than the evening of the day on which they are fired, preferably immediately after cessation of firing, and should be inspected, cleaned and oiled daily for 3 days following cessation of firing.

I clean mine after each range session. Since I'm retired and my range is in my pasture, the sessions are pretty often. I enjoy cleaning them. It's relaxing and a good time to check them for abnormal wear.

I clean the XD after every trip to the range. Since it stays in my nightstand, if dust starts to accumulate on the lightly oiled places I'll field strip it, wipe it down and re-oil it.

My rifles that don't get shot too often generally get cleaned 3-4 times a year, mainly just to re-oil. I've got them in silicon gun socks.

After every range visit which is once or more per week. The mags get cleaned once per month or so.
