Older XD finish

A budy of mine has one of the older Xd40 service. He had the rust problem at first. He said that he put a thin coat of turtle wax in the out side of the slide. He replaces the wax about every six months and has never had a speck of rust. He carries it ,IWB every day.

Another option

Might want to give a try using a light shot (caot) of white Lithium Grease.. spray. It goes on light... and dosnt stain the gun or grips or anything as far as I can tell.. and does a great job of chasing the rust monster away. Buzz

Yet Another Option

I work on the Northern California Coast and carry my XD every day in the salt air, fog, rain etc.. It's an older XD40 Tactical.

I use Corrosion X. I wipe the gun down with a real thin coat about once a month and haven't seen any signs of rust yet, been doing this for about 10 months now.

I had an older Xd 40 pre-melonite. I noticed some rust starting on the slide one day so I gave SA a call. They said it would be covered under warranty and they would reimburse me for shipping. After doing some research I decided to send it off to Brad at CCR-Refinishing to have the Cera-Hide finish put on and it cost me $59.00 plus $8.00 to cover return shipping. Normal price for slide only is $69.00 but they had a sale going. Turn around at the time they told me would be 3 weeks so I should get it end of this week or sometime next week. I will try to post pics when I get it back. CCR-Refinishing.com is the web address if you want to check it out.

You can call SA; provide them the serial # and they will look it up and tell you for sure. If you look close you can see a difference between the finishes, the photos are bad to really tell. The services is the old finish the sc new melonite.
