"New" Used XD

New as in it's new to me.
So I recently turned 21 and bought my 1st gun a used 9mm XD. I belive it is pre-melonite but I will call Springfield later today and find out. Anyways I do have a small amount of rust on the slide, slide release, take down lever, and trigger. It really isn't as bad as it sounds but I do want to get it all taken care of. I have been looking around the forums and have found some information and solutions such as Gun Kote but I was wondering what my best bet for getting the rust taken care of would be.

You could always have Springfield refinish it for you.

I'd rather have my XD and not need it, then need it and not have it....

I assume the gun is not under warranty and I would have pay. How much do they charge (I think i read $90 somewhere) and how does it compare to other baked on coatings or hard chrome? Do they refinish all the metal parts or just the slide?
Sorry for all my questions! lol

the only way to find out if it is under warrenty is to call SA

All SA have a life time warranty for any owner. You should call them and let us know what happens.

I took it to a local gun shop today and the guy took it and was able to remove the rust from it. He didnt act like it was a big deal at all and talked about rebluing which I have no idea what it is about. So now I don't know if I am just being all anal about it because its a 2004 XD that had a small amount of rust that apparently comes right off or if I should be worried and get it taken care of.
I wish I would have taken pictures beforehand.

Keep a thin coat of lube on it and it should be just fine. Most of the time it's just surface rust which wipes right off. You can always get it refinished later. Better to spend your $ on ammo and get familiar with your new firearm. Be careful how you store it and wipe it down with a silicon cloth after handling it.
