packets

Okay i am not very sure of the name of them but you get them in all new things little packet that says do not eat throw away oxygen absorber on them now heres my question are these things safe around ammo and firarms i was thingking about putting one in my gun case its supposes to get rid of the the moist and oxygen

actually it doesn't get rid of oxygen, it gets rid of moisture... never thought of using them, but thats a pretty good idea...

I believe you're talking about Silica gel, and I believe others use them in their safes / storage areas. I think you can buy some reusable kind from Midway (or any sporting goods store) that will turn a certain color when it's absorbed significant amounts of moisture. Then you just stick it in the oven for a little bit, and it draws the moisture out.

I use it in all my ammo storage boxes and with guns that are stored. Whenever I run low, I just go to the store and try on several jackets...until I realize none of them fit and somehow I have ended up with several packets of moisture absorbing stuff in my pocket.

Also some of the tiny cannisters that come inside prescription meds work well too. I have heard of some going to pharmacies and asking for their throw aways.

thanks all yea i just didnt know if it would have any effect on the ammo

i now have a couple in my safe and in the ammo boxs which brings a point up why dont they come in there already???/

My fire safe came with a large bag of it..... Guess it depends who sells the safe....

yes a bag of rice does the same thing as the silica gel grains

they also sell silica gel grains at most places where gun safes are sold.
