serial numbers indicating "after-rust guns"

I know this is a much talked about subject , but i cant seem to find much to answer my question . What serial number series is the "better guns that dont rust as easy? I am currently looking at one and want to know if it has the Melonite tratment or not. The gun i am looking at is a USED XD-9 sub . Not sure what year it is .

Get the serial and call SA, they'll tell you when it was made and what finish it has. It's that easy.

call SA and tell them the serial #, they can tell you the production date. anything made after april 06 is the newer model with the melonite, the newest version also has picitanny rails.

the xd45 has always been melonite finish.

The one i am looking at is a used XD-9 Sub and i cant rememeber to save my life if it had the rails . So are you saying that if it has rails then it is Melonite treated?

Far as I know all of them have rails. Send an e-mail with the serial number to SA and you'll have the answer tomorrow. I've done it quite a few times now. Or you can call.

FYI, I have a pre-melonite XD9SC and have no signs of finish issues. Rust or otherwise. It is one of my carry guns. And if it does rust, SA will take care of the refinishing.

I appreciate it Prawls . It is a good deal that i found , i just hate to buy a gun not knowing when a rust problem may flare up . I had a XD-40 but only had it for 7 months . No rust at all .

Just get springfields number and when you get there call them and give them the serial # and they can tell you production date and if it was melonite treated or not. Most of the time you can tell by the date but I have heard a a few that left later that didnt have it so the only guarantee would be to call and ask springfield.
