dating the XD-9 regarding finish coat

I was wondering when the S.A. started putting the "newer"type finish on the XD's that doesnt rust so easy . Isnt it called Melonite? Is there anyway to tell from a serial number?

april 2006 is when they stopped releasing the brunial coating and started releasing the new melonite finish.

the best way to tell is to get the serial # and call SA to find out what finish it has on it if your unsure.
