is this rust?

This is my first firearm ever and I am not sure. I bought this XD-45 bi-tone two months ago brand new and the test cartridge was from Feb 2007. I have tried to teak very good care of it, clean it after every trip to the range and wipe down the slide with a thin coat of oil before putting it away. This looks like rust to me and it doesnt won't come off. Can I remedy this myself or do I need to send it to Springfield to correct this? And also, can I do something different to prevent this in the future?

looks like rust and you should not be having that problem. Maybe a bad coat on it. I have not cleaned the outsid eof my xd since I bought it and have fired about 1000 rounds and have no rust issues like this. That is why I wonder about coat issues.

What was the outcome? I have a 1 month old XD-9 sc bi-tone that is showing the same rust pattern? Were you able to take care of it yourself? Did you send it back to springfield?
