Car Wax
Im new to XD Talk and this my first time on Rusty Tales.
I have no rust problem with my XD, But I only carry it when its cool out. When its hot out I carry a Kel-Tec 380 in my shorts pocket.I have had alittle rust on my 380 so I ask the guys at KTOG.com about stopping rust? I was told to use Car Wax on all the metal parts. And it work for me. When I go to the range I like to put 2 mags thru it to see it the gun will work with wax as a lube. It has worked good for me ever time. After the 2 mags I put some RemOil on it to do some more shooting. Has any one tryed Car Wax ??? Rob |

only on my car.
I have some armadillo but I never use it. On occasion I put it on my shotguns or hunting rifles, but for the most part it's too much of a hassle.

Just be sure to use a carnauba wax with no "cleaners" or "polishers" in it...that's a nice way of saying "abrasives". I use Flitz Gun and Stock Wax (carnauba and beeswax blend) on my firearms and never have a problem with rust, even when I lived a couple of blocks from the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. Wax is what museums use on historical firearms, incidently.
I don't like to rely on it as the sole lube for the action, but it's great for protecting the exposed surfaces. Try a light film of Tetra grease on the moving parts and you'll be real happy.

Thanks Noah Mercy
I forgot to say waxs should be Carnuba base and do not use cleaner wax. The very best wax to fight rust is Johnsons Past Floor Wax or any Carnuba based floor wax. I do not like to use wax as a lube but for my carry gun it will only need to work as a lube for 13 rounds of 380. I hope in real life I will never to use it. But I do try it at the range for 13 rounds 2 or 3 times a year and I never had a problem. |

Rusty Happy People
About the rust stuff, i use to have a Beretta .380 in the carribean area (Dominican Republic) where salt and hunid is a must. when some rust appeared i just used toothpaste (yes, colgate or crest or whatever) as the most fine sand. it is not invasive, will not hurt the finish and will fade even erase any light rust. DON"T commit the mistake to wax it rigth away, you need to kill humid as it condenses and creates water and oxigen between the wax film and the metal itself. I had use contact cleaner. it keep the lube and removes water and humid (It is used on electronic circuits). after that, use the lube you want and it will keep your gun nice. |

I purchased some Blue Wonder Armadillo protectant. It has paraffin, montan wax, tung oil, linseed oil and silicone.
It is hard to apply as the substance is very hard in the jar.Warm water on a cloth and rub it on the wax chunk in the jar, then apply to weapon parts. Claims to be a dry lube for the slide ect. So far I carry mt SA-XD .45 acp Tactical in the small of my back with no holster, in the desert (read Hot as He!!) and no rust at all. I have about 250 rounds throug it. I Bought the Blue wonder cleaning kit from PISTOL GEAR, great folks, they got that and 3 magazines to me like it was transported by Capt. Kirk from the Enterprise. Instant (like 3 days) So I have used all of the Blue wonder Products and I like them. When I run out I will buy more here --->http://pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=20BLA |

Just wipe it down with a good gun oil known to prevent corrosion. Remember not any gun oil will do the job. Breakfree CLP is terrible for long-term rust prevention, for example, even though it's a good gun lube in general.
I live in the very humid Pacific NW, where it rains 9 months out of the year. Every time I go to the range those months, it's so damp there will be condensation on the exterior metal of the gun. Yet I've never had a single spot of rust on any my guns, including my XD. I've heard of 3 gun oils that have been proven with competitive tests (Ballistol is not shown in this one, but I saw a similar test with Ballistol near the top) among oils to be the best at preventing long-term rust, in this order: Eezox CorrosionX Ballistol Also, I think there's a new one that hasn't been tested yet that will be equally as good as these: Mpro7's CLP or "field cleaner" product (note this is NOT the same as their cleaner; this is an actual lube and protectant). |
