They are not both stainless steel, just the Bi-Tone is.

So you can take your choice of the rust resistance of melonite, or the rust resistance of stainless steel.

Ahh, I do see how the melonite version is listed as a steel and the bi tone is listed as stainless steel with a satin finish. Any info on the satin finish? Thanks a bunch for all your answers. You have been very helpful Matt!

I believe they call it a satin finish becuase there is no glare to it. In other words, it isn't shiny.

I think....

Dont worry about it rusting, worry about which one you want to look at everyday.. Do you want a black pistol or do you want a bi tone pistol.. Odds are Its not gonna rust man and if it does who cares, just send it into springfield.. I definitly wouldnt worry too much about it rusting though. I say go for the look over stressing about one rusting quicker then the other..

Ive had both by the way... Never had a problem... EVER..

I think the bi-tone would take longer to rust but ive never done a test on it so i cant say for sure although stainless rusts slower than blued carbon steel im not sure with the melonite but i would say it may be the same with the melonite VS. stainless. I had a truck gun which was a ruger p89 that i left in their for 3 years and it was stainless and it had a little little spot of rust that i wiped off and it has been thorugh 3 years of summer, winter and humidity. My blued guns i have to keep well oiled and in a dehumidified place to keep them from rusting.

the melonite is on carbon steel, and is harder then stainless

the stainless can rust, the melonite i think, might be a lil harder to rust
