.40 Service BiTone Rust

This subsection of the forum seems to be like a broken record, but here's my addition...

Went shooting with my buddy Shayne and took a lady friend of mine shooting as well (she said she'd been posting here last week, in fact). All was well and good, she did exceptionally well for a newbie, and everyone went home feeling quite good about themselves.

Well, after some gaming that night (we're ALL geeks down here...), I take a look at my XD what would be two days later, and find the slide is covered in a suprising amount of rust.

The rear grip notches, in front of the take-down lever channel, all along the left hand side "XD-40" logo, behind the rear site, all OVER the stretch between the rear site and the ejection port, between the SA/Croatia logo, and right behind the side of the ejection port.

I'd had a couple of little specs near the front site before, but this thing has just turned brown in almost two days!

I guess now I need to stay up extra late on Monday and call SA to find out what the next step is.

Anyone done this before? This IS covered by the warranty, right?

Should be covered.

I'm guessing you didn't clean it before you started gaming?

Ha, very good guess.

We ended up staying later than usual, and game started at 7, a little after we returned.

And actually, I noticed in another post that different people's bodies can "cause" more rust, for lack of a better term.

This is supported by the fact that Amy had never gone shooting with us before, and I'd had nothing more than a couple of pepper-grain sized rust spots before.

So, in the future, someone is getting gloves if/when she goes with us again.

Or, OR.... or.....

You could clean your gun, and prevent all this in the first place....

It does sometimes come down to the person shooting it. Some people's sweat is more acidic by nature than other peoples.

And, like you said below this, sometimes maybe it is their sweat.

Then again, she does paint a lot, you'd think that would have something to do with it?

*adds SA to the list of companies he needs to call on Monday*
