I posted this in a separate thread, but to get more info:
Ok, I'm going to Parkerize a semi auto handgun and probably the accompanying magazines. This is going to be the base for a color job. I will briefly blast the outside with aluminum oxide before the parkerizing. Obviously MANY people have done this before, especially for WWII relics like the 1911. My questions are this: 1. Since the entire frame and entire slide will be submerged into the solution, what are the ramifications of having the insides parkerized. Example the Mag well of the frame, the inner crevices of the slide such as the channel that houses the firing pin as well as the slide rails? 2. Along the same lines, what happens to the inside of a magazine that is parkerized? I always lightly coat my mags with oil or a silicone gun cloth, but will I have to oil more often? 3. What are the chances of rust in the areas that I will not be able to oil very easily, (firing pin channel, underside of the extractor..etc, etc) Anyone with experience or knowledge on Parkerizing, I would appreciate it much. I want to do it right and am not going to rush into it. |

I doesn't look to bad considering your going to paint over the park. My guess for the color differences would be oils on the slide or maybe a shot park solution.
