YAY!!! i got rust!
so, i took my mossy and my X to AZ this past weekend. locked both in my wifes soft gun case. never used either gun, to my sadness, and left the bag in my BIL garage the first night.
the next night the bag was in the house. AZ was a little mucky and rainy, but i didnt think one thing about it. so, i get home take out my X and what do i see? a lite film of freaking RUST! no biggy really, i wiped down the enitre gun with some rem oil and it seems fine. even though it doesnt seem to be a problem i think it's pretty gay that my X already had its first bout with rust. GAY!!

when i was younger I did that with my first .22, a remington 597. left in the trunk for a day, and i had rust. Didnt really matter though, the gun was a piece of **** anyway, now its just a rusty piece of ****, it only gave me more reason to get rid of it and get a ruger

the film of rust happened to me once and i have owned my XD for nearly a year. i cleaned it, put it away, next time i got it out (maybe 2 weeks) there was rust on the slide. i was like WTF?, cleaned it, and it hasn't happened since.

SA WILL refinish it for free. Tell them you are having rust issues on the slide AND controls and they will do both.
They will also take care of shipping both ways. The bad part-you will be without your pistol for roughly 2-3 weeks....but it's free and it will look really good when you get it back.
