I see you have been to the website. That is NOT of my creation and it is NOT how I personally describe the product either here in this thread or elsewhere, and I did not author any of it. However, I will GLADLY take a stab at answering *some* of your questions/comments:
"So in other words, the solvent flashes off into the air and the base oil remains behind." - The carrier does NOT flash off. Rather it evaporates OR it can be wiped off. It can easily be left in the liquid state for quite a long time while dispersed on the weapon to enable substained cleaning. Unlike some of the products mentioned here in this thread, it will not have ANY unwanted actions if left on the weapon for as long as you care to leave it on the weapon in a liquid state. AND when you wipe it off it will leave behind the optimum amount of lubes, wood preservatives, rust preventatives and metal enhancers. SO....the term "flash off " is not really what is happening at all. "What is a non-agueous cleaning agent?" - It contains no water et al (etc). (<- Water is not good for guns.) I found this link with a google search (forst or second item): < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqueous_solution > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqueous_solution " This stuff is pretty strong if it will eat plastic." - Prolix is designed to dissolve shot-shell residue and cosmoline. The plastic and rubber parts you find on a gun are not affected in the least. i.e. We have NO reports of gun parts being effected, and this product has been on the market for almost 22 years. We however encourage you to make sure of this yourself, hence the "warning" as it is written at the website (and elsewhere). We want YOU to have assurance in the product with your own testing. As for being "pretty strong", that is a subjective term and the rest of your comments and questions have been more or less objective, so I am confused as to what you are getting at but I will try to answer what you may be getting at. -> Compared to much/most of the stuff on the shelves of your local gun store, it is quite benign. And "some" of the stuff mentioned in this thread by others WILL eat your sights and grips and/or is BAD for the wood and/or will gum up if applied too thickly. Whereas ProLix will NOT do these bad things and is actually GOOD for the wood, and the metals, and the finish on the gun..... ** Now if you meant that strong is a good thing, like how it lubes, protects and does a good job cleaning; then yeah you are "right on". Finally I am not prepared to discuss what is in the product as this is best taken up with Phil at the factory. i.e. HE is the one who decides such things, I am merely a long-term (satisfied) customer that became a satisfied distributor !! He is ALSO the one to talk to about the specifics of the specifications. (Or in other words; I am just the salesman and Phil is "the man".) P.S ... I am being very polite to the other products mentioned so far in this thread. My personal testing confirms that they all have drawbacks compared to ProLix, however it is NOT my place to badmouth the other products by name. So...perhaps you should just buy a bottle of ProLix as it is comes with a 100 % money back guarantee. I encourage ALL of my customers to do their own testing as to desirabilty and effectiveness for themselves as NOTHING beats that kind of response. Last edited by para_org; 04-17-2007 at 10:38 AM. |

I think this has turned into an infomercial!
By the way I use Breakfree (XD) and RemOil (XD lube and my other blued guns). No problems with rust or lubrication on any of my firearms. On the rails I add just a touch of Pro-Gold grease. It won't "shoot off" like some of the liquid based stuff.

IF you are using whatever products within their respective performance envelopes, then more power to ya. My only issue is that many shooters use these products outside of thier respective performance envelopes and (often) suffer problems as a result. |

Para org, thank you for the information and timely reply.
The website has it spelled "non-agueous", so that is why I could not find any info. If they meant "non-aqueous", I am aware of what that entails. Flash off, evaporate...it's semantics. The solvent is much more volatile than the base oil/additives so it goes into the air. It's simply a matter of the evaporation rate. Brake cleaner takes seconds, Eezox takes days. Speaking of which, Prolix sounds a LOT like Eezox which is a solvent/ester product, and they have an MSDS on their site (always a thumbs up for me). Is there not a MSDS available? It sounds like you are in contact with the designer/manufacturer? Maybe you could get him to post or send him a few questions and post his replies here?

EEzox has some application issues that ProLix does not. Specifically it can gum up when you do a thick application. Their website is very honest about this. Conversely you can soak firearms in ProLix. Um, I really suggest you contact Phil *directly*. He is a wonderful guy. I think you will learn a lot more from him than me. |

Talon, I've tried Eezox before and found it too was a good material to use. This was long ago when it was offered in a squirt can. I've been using Prolix cuz Eezox need a fancy device to apply the material now. rimfire,22 |

Wow, last I bought (last year) was the needle oiler, 4oz can and a can of spray. I'll go and check out thier new delivery device. I've always used my finger also a, q tip, a pipe cleaner and a flannel rag for wipe down. EDIT*** They still offer thier usual product line for dispensing. Needle oilers, cans, drips, etc. They do offer a can of air to "dust" with but I use my compressor. Then at one time they offered a pump sprayer to use iIf that is what you were talking about.. It is no longer available, I've used (recycle) an "Armoral" pump before to atomize / spray liquids. Anyway I;m interested in what you found.. Tal~ Heres a product link if interested. www.warrencustomoutdoor.com/pl-eezox.html Peace Talon
