Why I sold my XD!

This XD40 service barrell is only 11 months and has 1,500 rounds thru it and has been constantly been cleaned after every visit to the range with blue wonder products. This is an ongoing issue with the XD's and since I was lucky enough to find a buyer before the rest of it falls apart its GONE. Just unacceptable for a gun like this to rust so easily, shame on Springfield! Liked the feel of the gun but its obviously not made of quality materials nor an appropriate finish.

I think somewhere, a while back someone posted that springfield mentioned something about one of the ingredients in the blue wonder lube could actually lead more to rust with the XD.

I have an XD that was made back in late 2004. I purcahsed it "new" in january '06, not knowing it was actually older. I suspect my gun comes from the time frame when the finishes were more prone to rusting. I've had rust on mine once, and it was from being in a foam lined case in teh back of my vehicle in georgia back in may for about 8 hours. I had blue wonder armadillo on the slide.

I quit using armadillo products since then. I barely clean my gun. It sits in the pistol safe with nothing to protect it from rust, and it hasn't rusted since.

If you really liked the XD, check out the new xd45 acp. it has melonite treatment. You are going to be pretty much rust proof with that finish. It's the same finish a glock has for the most part. Actually, I take it back.. all guns manufactured now have the melonite finish on them. I believe they said if your gun was made after april then you have melonite. Might be worth you looking into it, and getting a gun that is for sure made later this year with that finish.

Did you contact Springfield about getting this resolved? From what I've read they would have taken care of this for you.

Saw the pictures. I have a 40 tactical but I have never had a rust problem. I use Brake Free CLP. I use Bores Cleaner for Semi-Automatic. I am also using a Bore Snake. The Bore snake is an outstanding product, in fact I take it to the gun Range with me and run it through the gun after I have done shooting. It really works!

Blue wonder will strip away any and all oil that is on the barrel. If you don't re-oil the barrel it will rust.

SA would've happily remedied this problem.

I hope the seller got a good deal.

Interesting only the end of the barrel was rusting.

That's the same wear pattern as my barrel (only mine isn't rusting). I keep mine oiled up so hopefully this won't happen.
