What ever happened to using WD-40 & HOPPE'S #9 for a good ole fashion lube job?

Dead-bang on the money there. I have been using that combo for 30+ years, with no probmes at all- including several XDs that were produced with the original matte-blue finish. Stick with a heavy oil like Hoppes Gun Oil and your troubles will be few & far between.

I've had my HS2000 for many years and haven't had any rust issues. There are plenty of times I haven't cleaned it after the range and have just let it sit and still nothing. (And yes I know that is bad )

I had the same problem on mine, plus a rusted slide. Sent it back to SA and they re-coated it. Looks more like a Glock coating now. It took a 100 rounds or so before it functioned properly...I guess it needed to re-break in.

The barrel is the only part not being made by Croatia (AFAIK). It's been mady in Germany of high quality german steel. I'm pretty surprised by what I read here.

I have a german made ww2 Walther PP in .32 ACP and keep it dry in a dry place. It never had any issues with rust and it's 60+ years old.

I think some specific oil makes, humid climate or overexposure to sweat may be causing this. I just don't know what else could be the reason for this.

I have an XD that was made back in late 2004. I purcahsed it "new" in january '06, not knowing it was actually older. I suspect my gun comes from the time frame when the finishes were more prone to rusting. I've had rust on mine once, and it was from being in a foam lined case in teh back of my vehicle in georgia back in may for about 8 hours. I had blue wonder armadillo on the slide.

I quit using armadillo products since then. I barely clean my gun. It sits in the pistol safe with nothing to protect it from rust, and it hasn't rusted since.

If you really liked the XD, check out the new xd45 acp. it has melonite treatment. You are going to be pretty much rust proof with that finish. It's the same finish a glock has for the most part. Actually, I take it back.. all guns manufactured now have the melonite finish on them. I believe they said if your gun was made after april then you have melonite. Might be worth you looking into it, and getting a gun that is for sure made later this year with that finish.
I just bought my XD9 mm last Thursday. I've been reading these posts and called SA. The damn gun was made 12/05. So that puts me in the bad years. I've heard any before 4/06 have the old coating. I really do have a problem with SA if rusting is as big a problem as it appears here. I live in GA and I leave mine in the car all day while at work. Thats why I bought the thing. Now it looks like I'll use it as intended and send it back if it rusts. If I have to send it back what do they refinish it in?

Jeez...

Get a Dremel tool and a wire wheel and zap the rust off, oil the barrel up, and the gun will shoot perfectly. Or just get some fine grit sandpaper and sand it off.

You used the wrong stuff to maintain the gun and then would not send the barrel to SA for a fix... they would have taken the rust off and refinished the barrel... something you could have easily done yourself. Instead, you have to broadcast to the world about how you sold your gun because it got all rusty (though only the barrel seems to have any rust).

Good... sell it. See ya.
