What all does the warranty cover for the finish?
I never get more than a little surface rust on my XD9 SC. But the finish in the front corners of the slide is wearing through, I assume due to my kydex holster. Will they fix it for that? Will they re-blue, or use the new finish everyone is asking about?

Mine has the same wear. I don't know if SA will cover refinishing for that or not... I'd like to know though

I dont know if they will cover that but if you let it get a little rust then send it in to get it refinished they will refinish the entire slide.

I dont get any rust on my xd at all. I dont think it should ever realy rust, not even a little. As for the other wear. It is normal wear and tear on a gun, and it does have a lifetime warrenty.

I really doubt SA will refinish for normal holster wear. My XD 357 which I purchased a while ago has got some goold holster wear going. I'm not too bothered by it. If you have rust problems SA may refinish it for you. I would call them and ask.

Besides obviously shipping it out there, what does the warranty-claim process entail? Is there any cost or anything?

I had rust on my XD-40. Sent pictures to SA customer service and they told me to send the gun back. I asked to send only the slide and barrel. They agreed, refinsihed the slide and barrel and sent back. It cost a few bucks to send and I did not fight to have SA pay for my shipping to them. I have heard others have and have received that cost as well. On a side note: the rust sucks, but SA did the right thing without any problems...it did take a few hundred rounds through the "re-finished" upper before the gun operated without malfunctions.

Well, I called SA a week or so ago, and read off my serial. Turns out mine was made in 2004. So yeah, old finish.
Unfortunantly, the guy on the phone didn't seem to knowledgeable of the problem with the old finish and was a bit.... astonished that I knew about it. Ah well. Now I just need to find Fishersville so I can send it off sometime. And Thomas, that's just another reason to go to the range, right?
