Anyone with a Melonite finish??
Does anyone have a newer XD with the Melonite finish? How is it holding up? I really hate that the old black XD finishes had problems with wear, and I was looking in buying a Bi-tone version, but if the XD melonite and Glocks tenifer finish is almost the same thing then this finish should be better than stainless, right?

#1. According to the company that owns both trademarks they are the same thing:
"great efforts were devoted to the development and launching of the TENIFERŽ process, which is also known worldwide under the trade names of TUFFTRIDEŽ and MELONITEŽ. " http://www.durferrit.de/en/unternehm...geschichte.htm #2. My XD45 svc is holding up VERY well and appears to be VERY tough. I like the Melonite a lot and am considering having a 1811 done. The process goes into the metal itself and if the outer black coating ever wears off it's still not supposed to rust because of process. Stainless can and does in many cases rust, although not as bad as plain steel. Yes, Melonite is more rust resistant than stainless as stainliss does still rust. |

3,500-plus rounds through mine with lots of in-n-out of the holster and not a mark on it.

I'm still not sure if anyone has definitively found out exactly when the changeover was made on the non-.45 pistols.
I haven't seen any serial number cut-offs or dates after which you can be SURE that you have the new finish. I'd be curious if anyone truly knows. Mark |

I bought a XD service that was test fired on 6/15 so i think that it has the new finish on it and it is holding great right now but it is brand new So it better not rust. But i intend to duracoat it any way.

I emailed SA inquiring about mine. They responded, asking for the serial number. I replied and gave it to her and she let me know that it has the Melonite finish. I only have one mark on mine which was my fault - a small scratch on the rear of the slide. Even though the scratch is silver in color, it has not begun to rust at all.
