Good Question, I'll ask SA tomorrow when I call the custom shop to check the status of my XD Service.

Two persistent and incorrect rumors.

1. Tenifer/ Melonite cannot be done in the US because of the EPA.
False: The original process used cyanide salts, the current one does not. Both have been available in the US for quite some time.

2. Tenifer, Melonite and Tufftride are different processes.
False: They are different trade names for the same process. Tenifer is used in Europe, Melonite in the US, and Tufftride everywhere else.

...on your research...yes, the original cyanide process did raise concerns from the EPA, and the current process is apparently more environmentally friendly. There is one problem, though...cost of having to re-treat, say a slide, that for whatever reasons, may have been damaged, or had slide cuts to accomodate new sights, and therefore requiring re-finishing etc...my understanding is that it is not cheap to melonite treat a weapon in small numbers. Any info on that thought?
